Names and Meanings....

I do like to know what the names mean.

My second son is Colby Ryan. His name means dark haired little king. By the way this fits him perfectly.

My daughter's name is Samantha. Her name means 'God heard'. Since I prayed for a daughter for a very long time, her name is very fitting.

My first son is named Mason Alexander. I don't remember what Alexander means but I love how strong his name sounds.

I named my daughter Bethany. Why? Because it sounds good when she is 3, 13, 30, 53 and 73. It also is professional enough to be printed on an office door. She could also choose to go by Beth, should the mood strike her. I did NOT choose to name her a name that caused "others" to constantly crack the same remarks to her over and over and over again. I had a friend once whose name was Echo. That poor woman went, and is still going through, her whole life with people saying, "Echo, Echo, Echo...." (as if they were in a canyon).
Meanings?...they are over rated when it comes to that persons life long comfort and happiness.

I always liked the name Daniel...but a good friend had already took it for her son. So I looked up what Nathaniel meant....sine I like it and thought it was similiar. The minute I read it meant "Gift from God" I knew it was my name. I wasn't supposed to be able to have children and turned up PG at 39 and had him one month after I turned 40...so I truly felt like he was a gift from God..a dream that I had long ago given up on had come true! I also was pleased with the variations people usually use Nathan and Nate...now he is called all 3 :) He will be 9 on 10-10-10...isn't that COOL!

I had a Hippy looking mother, who's her daughter's name was Mercy, ask me them meaning of my daughter's name. Payton means Pacca's town. I felt silly even saying it. It was the sound. Payton Olivia. Olivia means elf army.
I hadn't even put it together until just now. Pacca's town elf army-sometimes she seems like a little town going to war on me. Gotta love the terrific twos.

my daughters names are Gwen and Lilly, i like them because they are classic, and i like classic names, but gwen means "fair haired, light skinned" and Lilly means :"divine flower", which both really fit them actually

I didn't name my baby based off of the meaning. In fact, I had to re-look up some of her names to reply to this (she has 6). =) She has a hyphanted first name, which one we just liked, and the other is part of my boyfriends family (based on Joseph). And her two middle names are in honor of my father who passed away.
Roxy = dawn
Jo = God will increase
Janelle = God is gracious
Leela = playful
I was interested in what they meant, but even if I didn't like the meanings it was sort of already decided. We had a short list and this one stuck. =)

My daughter's name is Alina... the meaning depends on what nationality you choose... Gaelic/Irish it means Bright/beautiful. Most other nationalities it means Light. I like both. (The name appealed to me when because I thought it sounded beautiful, then I looked up the meaning and that clinched it.)

I did a combo of the 2. My daughter's name is Miranda Lise (lee-say). I like the name Miranda-plus it has a spanish sound to it (dad is hispanic). Many people think I named her after someone on Sex in the City but I have never watched the show. I got it from Carmen Miranda. Her middle name means Elizabeth. It is a Scandinavian form of the name. I am part Danish and wanted to give her something from my nationality.

awww that is nice! mine is Sara Michelina. Sara chosen after my HS BFF that was killed in a car accident, I had it picked since then but needed a hubby on board, it was not easy though. Michelina I though sounded really nice together and it happens to be his grandmothers name, she goes by something else though bc she never liked it LOL. Sara means Princess and Michelina means One who is like God. so I did not pick them for the meaning, but i do love the meaning.

For our 2 children, my husband and I both made a list of names we liked and then compared. When we just had a couple of names we were hesitant about, we checked the meanings to help us choose.
So first names we liked and then came the meaning. But, we wouldn't have picked a name if we didn't like the meaning.
Our son is Merwan. This is an old Briton name (where I'm from) not very used any more meaning at the same time "bright lake" and "wizard of the lake"; same origin as Merlin the wizard or Morgana the fairy in the Round Table legends. I guess the American version would be Morgan.
Our daughter is Alaia. This is a basque name (my husband was born in Basque country). It means 'Joy" and that's exactly what she is, a bundle of joy.
Their middle names are their grand-parents names (grandmas for DD and grandpas for DS). Neither beautiful or matching well but in our countries middle names are not relevant at all and barely use if ever.

My son is a teen & his name is Caleb which means "the bold one" and "heart". His middle name is Wilson which is my maiden name. He's happy that he has a Wilson in his name because it's also a big sports name on basketballs & baseball mitts. :) My tween daughter is Sarah which means "Princess" she was named after her grandmother Lousarah. Her middle name is Mikalyn, from the original Mikayla/Michaela which means "a gift from God". Her name has a nice ring to it - I love hearing her name being called when she gets her recognitions and awards on the stage!

We mostly picked by the sound and patterns. First we made sure the initials didn't spell anything bad, because my mom told me she almost named me with the initials "HAG". My husband is Robert, his dad is Albert, so first we tried to find another name that ended in "bert" but we couldn't find a good one. We ended up using both our middle names(my maiden name) which is a great way to connect our family.
If I'd had a girl, I had a name picked out that I saw on a piece of paper in a dream! It was Guila (probably a variation of Julia).

Our first three kids were named for people who were ill/dying who my husband and/or I were inspired by (Helen Louise, Jared 'Rayston' [after a man named Raymond Kingston], and Dana Kermit [my uncle, Kermit Phillips, who was dying with cancer and had no namesake]). Anita Marie was just a name we liked. Had Jared been a girl, he would've been 'Eva Marie' (after my mom, Eva Jean), and had Dana been a girl, he would've been 'Teresa Marie' (just because we liked the name Teresa). Our older daughter had studied names and their meaning for her kids but still mostly chose 'desirable sounding' names or 'named after' someone: Nathaniel Scott, Elijah (stillborn @ 5 mo), Johnathan Travis, and Abigail Lee.

we loved Nora, which is my great-great aunt's name, and she's an awesome lady. I'm not sure what it means. Her middle name is Genevieve, because we wanted a saint's name and I thought the story behind St. Genevieve was funny. She's the patron saint of Paris, basically for telling the Parisians to do nothing even though the Huns were coming, and then the Huns ended up turning back for whatever reason, and she's credited with saving Paris. Hee.

For us it was just names that we liked and agreed on. My first son was going to be James Robert but when he was born he did not look like a James, JIm, Jimmy or Jamie but he did look like a Robert so we just changed it around. We let Robbie help pick out the second childs name, he wanted it to be Christopher Robin, from Winnie the Pooh, but we chose Ryan instead of Robin. By the time we got to the 3rd child we could only agree on Michael,counld not agree on a middle name so he just got a middle initial of E, because it is my hubbys middle initial and also my middle name. I know they are biblical names but I do not remember the meanings. I did look them up before but have forgotten.

I know a woman who named her sons Roamin' and Doodle.
No kidding.
They were teased mercilessly.
The meanings?
Dad was roamin' the halls when the first baby was born and he called to "doodle" the directions to the hospital for the second one.
Go figure.

I think the meanings of names are interesting, but it's good to just go with what sounds good and what you like. (Most of the time, lol).

My oldest daughters name is Madison, after my grandma(its her maiden name),ironically it means son of Matthew, which is my ex husbands name. My youngest daughters name is Abbe, her spelling doesnt have a meaning, but Abbey means nunnery. My son's name is Xander and that means "defender of the people". My mom hated that name and thought I made it up so I had to show her the name was in the baby book! He is only 10 weeks old and my family still gives me grief about his name!

my first was named coalton just cause we liked it. and later found out its meaning was from a coal town which he was. my youngest is named storm because of how he was when I was pregnant with him and the meaning fit to a tee. even more now that he was born.
