Hubby and I are struggling with names for our second.. For a girl we're leaning towards Norah but don't know about a middle name. I like Norah Sage or Norah Rose. He doesn't like either. For a boy, it's even harder. We know the middle name would be Douglas (family thing) but a first name is still a mystery. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I really like Norah Sage or Norah Rose. Other good middle names would be June, Joy, Jane, ect. You don't have to go with a J names, just something simple and classic. That comment about the herb was annoying and ignorant. Sage is lovely. For boy's names I like Grant, Kurt, Henry, and Edward. Nothing that Rhymes with Aiden.

For us, the middle name universe shrunk when we decided that we wanted some meaning to that name (like with Douglas as a middle name for a boy for you). Is there a relative you'd like to honor? Maybe use that person's first initial as your starting point. For example with my 2nd son, both my grandpa and my husband's died the year before our son was born. The grandpas had the same name (which was already taken by my oldest son) so we picked a different name with the same initial. My 3rd son's middle name starts with the same letter as my late MIL's name. So maybe that would help narrow down the universe for you?

FWIW, I love the name Norah Sage. It's beautiful. How about June, Jane, Maeve, Violet, Katherine?

My unused boy names were Caleb, Dylan, Nathaniel. Some faves from my sons' friends are Morgan, Colton, Finn and Colin.

Good luck and congrats

I love the "Norah Rose" - has a nice ring to it and is easy to say.

Just be sure, like I always say, whatever you choose go thru looking at the initials and every possible combination they'll end up with so it doesn't end up being an acronym for something bad, silly or stupid. Like Irene Rose Smith - who wants to live with the initials IRS the rest of their lives!! lol!!!

As for Douglas - how about Chip, Ernie, Rob or Steve? Ok, I'm showing my age!! lol!!

Good luck!!

My son's middle name is Douglas (by choice, not a family thing). His first name is Ian. If I was using Norah, I'd keep away from middle names that started with an "R", it's a harsh sound put together. I like Norah Elise.

No disrespect, and you will name your child what you will.....but why would you want to name your child an herb?? Sage....for a girl? What ever happened to simple little girl and boy names?

Give this a try it was fun to check out and it may help you with the suggestions based on your personality.

I LOVE the name Norah. You couldn't do better.

If I had to pick a brother for a little girl named Norah, I might go with:

Oliver Douglas
Emmett Douglas
Owen Douglas
William Douglas (Will, Liam, or just William)
Tobin Douglas

Those just sound right to me, but if you like the name Norah, anything you chose will be fantastic :)

I like Norah Sage, but I am sure you can come up with a few that you and your husband both like. That was always a struggle for us, but when we hit one we BOTH liked, it was pretty much a done deal.

This was my favorite place to search: http://www.babycenter.com/baby-names

Boy names I liked (that we did not use) were: Cody, Julian, Jules, Walter, Malcolm, Spencer, Xander, Ezekiel, Elijah, Kent, Thelonius (husband said NO, but I love it), Jacob, Jason, Quinn, Wyatt...

For a girl, I love Kiera, Celia, Cecelia, and Corinne. I think Evelyn is due for a come back. Elise or E. is nice too, though I may be a bit biased there.

Good luck!

okay, this is a little too random for me! You're going to receive a ton of suggestions....all disputing each other. :)

For example, I have zero problem with "Sage"...I just don't think it flows as nicely as "Rose".
