I am a month away from bringing a youth self esteem workshop into our girls middle school. I have worked on this program for several years (life got in the way). I am so excited! With that being said I am in need of your help.

I would like to put together a inspirational video with the foundation of the message being don't give up no matter what obstacles you face. The grades will be 6-8. My questions to you are...

Name a movie or part of the movie that was a source of inspiration for you or a part that you needed your child to watch to inspire them. No matter how old...

Name a inspiring quote that you have heard or use.

any other ideas to add to this video?

The below link is to my "that was awsome and gave me chills" movie

TIA for letting me pick your brains.

What can I do next?

Pursuit of Happyness - that movie is probably the most inspirational I have watched.

The part where the dad (will smith) and the son are playing basketball and the little boy is telling his dad he wants to be a basketball player when he grows up. Will Smith then basically tells him to be realistic and not get his hopes up. After a few minutes, Will realizes what he has done, grabs the boy, gets on his level and basically says "listen to me boy, don't you EVER let anyone tell you you can't do something, not even me". It is great!

I am sure there are other parts of this movie you could use - this one just stands out in my mind.

I sure hope your movie clip isn't the same one, I cannot watch youtube at work!!

Good luck - what a fun question!

When I first read the title of your post, I thought of The Patriot. Most inspiring move I've ever seen. However, I now realize that's not quite what you are looking for :)

How about Charlotte's Web: "Why did you do all this for me?" he asked. "I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you.'
You have been my friend,' replied Charlotte. 'That in itself is a tremendous thing.”

Forest Gump quotes: You have to do the best with what God gave you. Mama says they was magic shoes. They could take me anywhere.

Akeelah and the Bee: Akeelah: [quoting Marianne Williamson] Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

There is an older movie called "Running Brave" starring Robbie Benson as Billy Mills, the first native American to win an Olympic gold medal. The whole movie was pretty inspiring, but the end scene where he wins his race is amazing -- especially since the actual Olympic footage is equally awe-inspiring.

Some of these are great!

There's a real life event that happened not that far from here several years back - most of the country knows something about it ... the Carrollton Bus Crash - caused by a drunk driver. (there was just a recent one with preschoolers - not the one I mean) I can't recall the young man's name off the top of my head, but one young black male was badly burned but has preservered and reached several goals ... however, that might be too shocking for that age...

If you have not seen "Door to Door" with William Macy, I would definitely recommend this movie. I laughed, I cried, I was inspired! I saw this movie many years ago but I never forgot the message it portrayed. It is a true story.

Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Bill Porter grew up to take the physically demanding job of a door-to-door salesman in the worst neighborhood in Portland, Oregon (without pay, only commissions). Eventually he became the company's top salesman in the city, the region, and finally the country. Along the way he learned powerful life lessons that he imparted to those around him. One of those people was Shelly Brady, first hired by Porter as a typist and driver, later a great friend. In this inspiring book, she brings together those lessons. These seemingly simple ideas — "Mothers Know Best," "Persistence Pays Off," "Know Your Limits but Reach Beyond Them" — resonate powerfully when seen through the lens of a life lived to the fullest against what would be impossible odds for many. Whether finding cooperative bellmen to button his cuffs or beaming a video to his speaking engagements because of ill health, Porter, whose life story became a cause célèbre in the 1990s, gets the job done with a smile — and shows readers how to do the same.

There are just so many, so I might add to my post later.

The one that instantly came to mind was from "Rudy." Rudy wanted to play football for Notre Dame, but acadmics wasn't his strong suit and semester after semester he was not accepted. He would go to the chapel on campus to pray and would often talk to one of the priests. There were two things the priest said that have really stuck with me.

"Son, in 35 years of religious study, I have only come up with two hard incontrovertible facts: there is a God, and I'm not Him."

"Praying is something we do in our time, the answers come in God's time."
