Nail Fungus

Hello!
My ex-husband had nail fungus for years, and tried the oral meds, tried rubbing alcohol, everything he could think of. Finally what resolved the problem was the "magic soap" we use for the kids--the antibacterial liquid. Hope that helps!

I don't respond very often... but had to let you know that my son (now 3) had nail fungus. This spring (about May), we started putting medication on three of his nails... we did not use the oral medication. It seemed like a shot in the dark - but we didn't want to use the oral medications. Believe it or not - his nails now look great! So, it was a daily thing (still using it on one nail) and his nails actually fell off a few times before we saw a healthy nail. But, we really had luck. Our doctor cautioned us that it might not work... but, we got lucky. Our insurance covered part of it. I think it was about $200 and we paid about $100 after insurance. It was a little bottle, but even with treating 3 nails a day since May we are using the same bottle. Good luck!

I've heard the same and as a matter of fact, I'm running into the same situation after wearing nail polish for many many years. Although, its unknown if that's the problem or not. If there is a solution without the internal side affects it would be great to hear.

I personally do not have this condition and my husband does. The thing about taking lamisil or the like is that it can damage the liver as well as it doesn't guarantee that it will go away for good. My husband has taken meds for it 3 different times in his life...it hasn't gone away.

My Mother in Law has had problems all her life with that. She has tried every kind of topical thing out there. The only thing she has found to work was the pill. Good luck!

My husband puts Vick's on his toe every morning after his shower, and that keeps his doing just fine. He also used some sort of essential oil at one point--I am not sure what it was. I will ask him. Hope that helps!

I am dealing with the same issue and learned the same thing. I cannot take the oral med as I am nursing but am trying Penlac that you paint on like nail polish. I've done it for 1 1/2 months and it's not getting any worse and possibly a bit better. However, the fungal infection I have is not too "think" as the doctor put it, so I have a chance with this. It will take a minimum of 6 months to see much improvment. I am hoping it will work because I'm not too excited about the oral med. and the copay on the Penlac is high. (It costs about $100 without insurance!).

I use No More Fungus antifungal liquid by Sally Hansen. It take a while and a lot of persistance but it is worth it. I cut my nail as short as possible cutting the nial to expose the area where the fungus is. I apply the antifungal liquid twice a day every day more often on week ends. Another thing I do is, now the seems gross, to scrape as much of the fungus out from under the nail as possible. I do this every day. It is easiest right after I shower because every thing is soft. I get the fungus on my toe nails. You have to keep treating the nail untill it is completely grown out and them I keep treating even when it looks like it is all gone. I made the mistake of stopping treatment when I thought it was gone and it came back but not as bad so the second time I kept treating for a good 6-9 months after the nail had grown out and seemed to be fungus free.
By the way one bottle of this will last forever.
