At the age of 28 my left foot has grown from a size 8 to a size 9, my right is still a 8 but my left has grown. It is so weird... now none of my shoes fit, and i am kinda freaked out. Has this happened to anyone else?

--- No pain or swelling in my legs or anything. The only difference is that I have put on weight recently (25-30 lbs - I quit smoking). I go in for a physical soon so I will let the dr know I just want to know if it is something I need to be concerned about prior to that.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

dr said it was nothing, probably cause I gained weight and not to be worried it happens sometimes.

Seven yrs ago I was a size 8 1/2, now I'm a 9 1/2. If I were gonna guess I'd chalk it up to weight gain.

My feet grew from a 9 to a 9 1/2 when I was pregnant with my daughter. I've heard of people randomly growing bigger feet without even being pregnant. Worse things in life could happen. Just one of those things that happens that are just make you say hmmmm . . . . I wouldn't worry to much about it.

I have had a similar experience through 2 pregnancies and some weight gain. I don't think this is unusual at all. My feet are also about 1/2 size difference between each other.

All through H.S. and up til I had my 6 yr old, my feet were size 9, then I had my next son and they were 9 1/2, after my daughter was born, they grew to a 10. I gained wt with each pregnancy, and haven't been to lose it even though I work out a lot. I just bought a brand new pair of Nike's two month s ago (10), I noticed the other day they seem to be getting tight feeling in the toe area, my toe is right up there. I guess it's a good thing that we are done having kids. I can't inmagine having a size 11! I also read somewhere (don't remember where) that our feet, ears and noses never quit growing. I think it might have been in a Prevention magazine.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, my feet got bigger. My doctor said that it was due to the hormones in my body that allow for ligament stretching to let the baby come out and the additional weight I was carrying (40 lbs) pushing down on my feet. I was on my feet quite a bit during the pregnancy, so that made sense to me. He thought within six months after she was born they would be back to normal, but they never did. I gained one full size in both feet and had to get rid of all my old shoes and heels. Are you on your feet alot? Maybe you are standing in a way that is putting more weight on your left foot? Just a thought... Congrats on the quitting smoking though - its not an easy change! :-)

In my mid-20s, my feet grew about a half size, and they also got quite a bit wider. I did have to go out and get all new shoes. But, it was both feet.

Edited to add: I would just mention it at your upcoming physical. Unless you start having pain or swelling, I see no reason to rush to the doctor. But I bet this makes shoe shopping hard! I remember seeing a website a long time ago for people who had different sized feet, so it's not unheard of. The website allowed people to connect and find ways to go in on buying pairs of shoes together. Like, if you wear a 7 on your left foot, and a 6 on your right foot, you find someone who wore those same sizes, but reverse, and then swap shoes with them.
