My Daughter's 10Th Birthday Gift?
My daughter will be 10 years old in about a week. I want to get her something special, but not sure what? She is a great daughter, kind sister, straight A student, plays soccer and baseball, dance 5 classes weekly, and she was accepted into a scholar program for the summer. Her summer is full of non stop school work that is challenging. What can I get her?

I think that you should get her a nice piece of "real"jewelry that she can have forever. I am thinking a charm bracelet that you can add to each year. If you get it in silver it won't be crazy expensive either and will have a more contemporary and younger look.
I also think that you should take her out for a special lunch just the 2 of you-somewhere nice and girly(someone mentioned a tea place-great idea!). Then get mani/pedi. She will love this and really appreciate how you cleared your schedule just for her.

Hi M.,
Wow! She sounds like quite a kid! You've gotten some great ideas already: jewelry, mani/pedi with mom, lunch etc. You know your daughter best. Is she a girly girl? Hair/nails/lunch. Is dance her real passion? How about tickets to a dance performance? Does she need time just to be a goofy kid? Maybe a day at the amusement park? Kids all have their own little "it" things--find your daughter's and go from there. So sweet that you want to do something extra special for her. Have fun!

I have four daughters and their favorite birthday present is all day trip alone with mom to the mall, dinner and a movie.
When my oldest daughters turned 13, I took each of them on an overnight trip alone with mom. We stayed in a nice hotel and went to the zoo with one and an outlet mall with another.
How about taking her to a concert, or a professional play?

How about a doing something special - amusement park, concert, aquarium, Broadway style show in NYC or Philadelphia, Franklin Institute, etc. Santa has gotten our boys tickets for Monster Truck shows (they're 5 and 7) twice now and they loved it. At 10, she might enjoy picking something out, with your help.

Hi M.,
Had you thought about doing something special with her?
Taking her out to a tea house and have tea and crumpets.
Just a thought. Good luck. Happy Birthday to your little miss. D.

It sounds like she has a lot of activities. Our daughter learned to crochet this year, and enjoys the calm relaxing craft as a contrast to her active gymnastics days. If your daughter likes pretty things she may also enjoy a kit for crochet or knitting, bead crafts, wire jewelry etc. Admittedly, these are more wintery types of ativities, but not necessarily. Have fun exploring the many options!

PS. A gift card to a craft store would give her so many options, and the outing will be a nice together time for you.
