Is it just that you can see white areas? Or is there a white substance on top of the gums?

My first through was thrush. It's like a white, milky coating on the gums or tongue. It's a fungal infection that's very easily treated.

The gums usually do appear to be almost white on the sides. I always thought that was the bone -could be the teeth, I suppose. Either way, totally normal!

If you're concerned, just call your pediatrician. The nurse should be able to help you figure out what it is.

It is probably thrush. Does he also have a diaper rash? If you are nursing, do you have any nipple pain? If so, all of these are probably related. If you talk to your pediatrician, he can give you a prescription for Nystatin to clear it up.
