So my very healthy normal 2 year old has not been able to stand up from a squatting position
since yesterday. He cries and says "hurts" when he tries. I am thinking of bringing him to the pedi
tomorrow to see what they say? Any one out there have a common occurance?
Could it be just a pulled muscle? But he walks perfectly fine. At one point he even tried to crawl out of the position
but could not. We have to help him get up.. he says. "stuck" and "ow".. at first I thought maybe a game he
was playing.. but watching him I really think he is in pain. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So he woke up this morning and he is doing great! He is not complaining at all and has moved on with life!
YAY! I am so glad! I think it must have been a temporary muscle strain! Thank you all so much for your suggestions!
I am so thrilled that is was nothing serious! I was really getting concerned! But he has been squatting and then getting
right back up all day with no complaints! Yippee!!

Hi, I'm a pediatric physical therapist. My first impression is to recommend you get it checked out. It may be nothing or something very minor, but there are some serious problems that could have symptoms like that. I don't want to go into details, because I don't want to worry you needlessly and hopefully it's nothing serious anyway! Hope he feels better soon!!!

I think you need to see a doctor to find out what is happening - could be as simple as a strain or as complicated as a more serious muscular problem going on.

Could be any number of things, a pinched nerve, a sore joint, a muscle strain or spasm in back, hip, or leg. It could be a lot better by tomorrow, but if not, it would be a good idea to have his doc check him over.

I get "stuck" if I hold an extreme position too long. My muscles just freeze up. I've attributed it to age, but I went through a period of the same problem in my early 30's.

This is really tricky. Check to see if he is running a fever...even a slight one. He could have appendicitis. I would take him to the ER just to be safe. I would not wait. It is a cause for concern when a child cannot stand up or stand up straight on his own.
