I feel your pain! I had to do lovenox for my recent pregnancy due to antibodies in my blood that probably caused 4 previous miscarriages. My sweet girl is now 6 months so the discomfort of doing the shots was well worth it! I found the area right below my belly button to either the left or right was the least painful. Pinch hard - if u can and hold the spot tight for 10 minutes after to keep the bruising down. After the first 4 months my husband had to start giving them to me because I would chicken out and ended up having panic attacks over it. I fell in love with him even more the day he put aside his fear and gave me that shot - it didn't seem to hurt as bad when he did it. Plus he would do it faster and the pain would be over quicker. I really wish the makers of Lovenox would create a smaller needle - similar to the insulin syringes - because is just seems so big compared to the insulin syringes I used when doing heparin.

Hang in there, they do hurt but it will all be worth it!

OMG I HATED those!!!!! I was on Heparin throughout my pregnancy and had to do the shots twice a day in my stomach. After I gave birth, they gave me Lovenox for the 6 weeks after. Even though it was just once a day, they were so much more painful. Since she was no longer inside me and it wasn't to sustain her, there were days I was like a big baby and would refuse until my husband talked me down. The only thing I can tell you is to ice the area really well before injecting the shot. They didn't advise me to do this, but it was the only way I could bare the pain.

yep, did it for seven months of my last pregnancy and beyond. i did them all on my tummy (i'm not sure there's another option), but i found that it hurt more on one side of my tummy than another. i found that if i injected the needle very quickly, it helped but that was a mental hurdle. i hated it every step of the way, though, but keeping the risks of NOT doing it kept me going. good luck! i feel for ya, sister!!

I have been doing the Lovenox shots for almost 6 months. The only time it doesn't hurt is if I find a place with more fat. Other than that, it hurts every time. Just bear with it... it doesn't hurt less, but it seems I can tolerate the pain better.

Pinch the area up in one hand and then inject slowly. It helps I found this out when I was having to give myself the injections. I am also a nurse and once I found out this I started doing the same for my patents and had less comments about the pain of the injections

Hey there - I understand where you are coming from - I had to do the Heparin injections twice a day for all THREE of my pregnancies - but it is so worth it for those little angels. With my first child, I would just pinch the injection site, ice it down and then get it over with. I found that if I injected quicker it didnt burn as bad, but make sure you unpinch before you pull the needle out because otherwise the medicine will come out. All I can say is that it gets easier.......by my third child, I didnt ice, didnt pinch or anything - it was like I was used to it already. The best place that I found that didnt hurt so bad was right around my belly button - although after a while you bruise so bad there that you have to move on - Sorry I couldnt be more help.......Hang in there!

The manufacturer actually recommends
administering the injection in the love handles toward the side. Pinch, insert the needle quickly, but then inject
the medication slowly. Be sure not to apply pressure or
rub the site afterward.
