RE: In-vitro Intra-muscular Injection Relief

Hubby & I are in the final stages of our In-Vitro & have started the progestrone injections in the behind. Does anybody have any remedies for the sore upper hip ? It feels like a charlie horse and/or black & blue area. I've heard that a heating pad will alieviate some of it, but, I don't want to interrupt the benefit of the injection. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What can I do next?

I just did my third ivf. My butt is much more sore, faster this time around. You can try ice first, then heating pad after. I also rub the injection site afterwards for awhile. Best of luck. We got lucky and ivf 2 and hoping to again.

We were in fertility treatment for 9 years! I feel your pain, hope, prayers, hesitant excitement! Hang in there darlin! Ice always worked best for me!! :)

I know how many stories you've heard! You'll get your happy ending! Just keep praying!!

I went through in-vitro myself (although my son is now 4 years old) and remember the pain as well. I seem to recall using ice at times. It's not a permanent fix; however it numbs the pain for a bit. Best of luck to you with your in-vitro process and my thoughts are with you for a VERY Positive outcome!

If your husband is giving you the shot tell him to push the serum in slowly. Once you get the needle in, its in but pushing the drug in slowly rather than quickly really helps. I did progesterone injections myself and used to give a lot of shots to fertility patients. People actually requested me because they said my shots didn't hurt. Good luck with everything!

A friend of mine did all that stuff and just so you have a thought she started getting acrapuncture (sp) and after years and years of trying (even a sister backing out of having one for her) finally got pregnant while doing that at your same age. She now has been blessed with a little healthy girl. Good luck to you.

I had in-vitro which resulted in triplet girls that are now 5 years old. I found that rubbing the area after each injection helped break up the progesterone somewhat. i also switched hips each night. I don't think I actually found anything that completely got rid of the lump or pain, but I do remember this helping. It was worth every bit of the uncomfortable times for sure!!
good luck!

When you are in the warm shower, stand backwards and let the warm water hit your hip/butt area for a minute or two. Then take the heel of your hand (where the wrist meets your hand) and knead and massage the area where the injection is. It helps it feel good, and also it helps dispense the oil better under the skins.

Good luck to you and your husband. We're ivf-ers ourselves. Who is your doctor?

We did in-vitro 2 times and it worked on my second cycle which was a frozen one. The progesterone shots in oil are the worst. My husband would put the hottest water he could stand out of the tap on a wash rag and hold that on the injection site after he gave me the shot. The warm water in the shower is also a good temporary relief. Unfortunately, there is not anything to offer more permanent relief. And if your cycle is successful, you have to take it for like the first 12 weeks or so. Then it hurts and iches, but at that point I just dealt with it because it is well worth it. The very best of luck to you in your cycle!
