Military Mom Needs Advice

Hey J.!
My name is S. and I too have a son who is in the military. While my son is only at the beginning stages of his military career, he is not at home with us. He is stationed @ Sheppard AFB, TX. We have not seen him since he graduated Basic at end of Feb. We do miss him so much.
I take it that your son is active duty--so you must not get to hear from him--given that he's your only child, that must be that much harder. (I have two other children at home-12 and 15)

We may be experiencing different aspects of the military and the kind of life it offers the families of those that are a part of it, but we can always encourage others along the way! What I found that has helped me with missing my son is that I have started working on a scrap book for him--all the pics from the newspaper--of course I had to start at the beginning of his life--like his very own life story---and then, when I feel that it is complete enough--maybe in a few years (LOL) I will give it to him as a gift--not necessarily at Christmas--life should be celebrated EVERYDAY--and then, I can continue to make pages for him as his life takes him other places--then, maybe at Christmas, give him those pages to add--sort of like a tradition--I can hear him now: "Well, I know what mom is getting me for Christmas--another one of those scrapbook pages!" LOL!! But, knowing that deep down, he LOVES it! Who doesn't like to have someting that represents the accomplishments of our lives! I think that it would be a good idea to do one for each member of our family--it would be an ongoing work of love and each person can add what they think that they want to be remembered for! I like that idea...hmmmm...I think that I have just found my next project for this year! LOL!

J. try these two locations....they are really great and will help you through tough times and can even set you up with people in your area so please send them an e-mail and see if they don't make you feel alot better...My only son served the USMC for 8 years and the last 4 of course being the hardest of my life but he is back and safe and sound and these 2 groups really kept me sane at times...Thank God for them both and a really really big hug for you because I know your pain and it does not get any easier until they are home...Good Luck my friend and please keep me informed on how things are going with both you and your son! I dont have a child in the military but my husband is in the navy stationed at the gulfport seabee base! We have a 21 month old daughter and another on the way so if you ever want to talk...i can kind of relate...instead of a child its my hubby thats gone! take care hun!

You may wish to contact the base where he's currently stationed/deployed from. There are support services for families of military personnel. My kids are still very young, so I can only imagine what you're going through.

Your son has my gratitude for his service. May he come home safely.

www.soldiersangels.org has a forum for Soldiers Angels- a lot of mothers there are moms of sons and daughters that are deployed or have been...

I dont have a child in but my husband is in the Army. He just got back from Iraq last September, so I know how hard it is. Its a little different cause this is your child but if you need to talk I'll listen :)
