Moms, I am wanting to hear if there are success stories from taking Metformin only for PCOS and getting pregnant, and how long it took? I have 2 sons, the first was a total surprise and the 2nd came after 6 months of unsuccessful attempts with Clomid and finally taking Metformin and getting an IUI. Personally, Clomid messed me up and I never gave myself a chance to try without it. I think I rushed things, so this time I want to take just the Metformin to see if that will regulate my crazy irregular cycles enough for me to get pregnant. I know my body can do it because I got pregnant with nothing the first go round. Honestly the Clomid make me crazy and I had tons of cysts after that, and while my doctor talks about Femara, I just really don't want it to come to that. So, if you have a success story, or just a story about it, I would love to hear it! Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Sorry - but I would talk VERY seriously to a doctor and a pharmacist about taking Metformin - it's for diabetics - and there is a HIGH chance that IF you start taking it - you MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO STOP!!!

Clomid for me? While I didn't get pregnant - it was the only time that my periods were regular and I lost weight.

My daughter has PCOS with insulin resistance. She was prescribed metformin when she was diagnosed. It has nothing to do with regulating her cycle, but rather to help her with her diet and weight gain and regulating her insulin levels.

Metformin helped to regulate my cycles before I had my daughter. I recently went back on it to help increase odds in ovulating. tried clomid and western medicine approach for 6+ months before changing over to acupuncture. My body responded way better to Chinese medicine. Clomid was awful! I ended up getting pregnant on my own while taking metformin and had a successful pregnancy. I have since gotten pregnant 3 time while not on metformin and miscarried all 3. I am now back to considering western medicine since acupuncture is not easy to get to since I moved here. I miss it!
I have 2 friends that both got pregnant while on metformin and no other treatments. One of them right after starting it.

good luck. talk to your drs.

I have PCOS with Insulin resistance (just tested negative for diabetes). I have taken Metformin to help control my crazy irregular cycles. I have taken it on 2 different rounds now. The first time I took it was about 8 years ago. I took it for a few months along with clomid & progesterone & all kinds of other stuff. After just a few months, I was sooooooo tired of the GI side effects, I quit taking it and left it all up to fate. I moved to Colorado a couple years after that, ate a little better (although, not much at all) and walked a few times a week. I also found an awesome beginner belly dancing class once a week. Anyhow, I lost about 25 pounds in a year. It's not a lot to lose but it was just enough and I got pregnant on my own. Irregular cycles and all. I just started taking it again recently because my little girl is now 5 and after 5 years of trying, we still have to brother or sister for her. I am easing myself into the meds this time so it doesn't effect my GI as bad. One reason is to help try to regulate my cycles (which it did do last time) but also to hopefully help me process my sugars a little better and lose weight. So far, no luck for anything. But it hasn't been long this go.

Good luck on your journey! :)
