Hi All Moms!!
I need some advice for my 24 year old nephew. He has a full time job with no medical or dental insurance. He has been sick the last couple of days and feels like he needs to go to the doctor and after he told me what his symptons are i did some research on the internet and I'm thinking he might need to have his appendix taken out. So just in case he does, is there any place that will do the surgery for a reduce rate because my niece's husband had to have one done a couple of years ago and she said it was just under $9k in Houston, TX but the insurance pd. for most of his. Thanks in advance. S.
P.S. Also, Does anyone know of a good medical insurance?

What can I do next?

United Healthcare has an independent plan called Golden Key, my husband and I both went for a time as independent recruiters (we have 2 boys under 10) and their rates seemed to be the most reasonable around.

In TX Most companies accept United Healthcare, so they will accept your insurance and ususally see you at a reduced rate for office visit, etc. Good Luck! L.

I would have him go to an urgent care facility within a hospital (likely Brackenridge) to get evaluated. They will work with them since they are the county hospital and Catholic.

Also, I would look at Scott and White and if he really isnt every sick - I would look into RapidCare for a general care needs.

GL!

S., My husband is self employed, and before I went back to work we used Unicare. They have different plans where you can pick the type of coverage you want for different family members. I suggest it for your nephew.
I think there is a hospital in Round Rock that will deal with those without insurance, but I'm not sure which one. But the Unicare was cheapest and would cover well checks for my kids and shots. I think their site is www.unicare.com.

Good luck. Health insurance is absolutely necessary, even if it is a crappy plan ! At least your out of pocket on things like surgery is limited to your high deductible !

If the medical problem is truly an appendix problem, get him to a doctor immediately, for if it burst, his life could be in danger! Do take this seriously.

Try Scott and WHite for insurance. They have individual plans. Don't have a clue as to how much.
