My husband is a teacher and unfortunately his insurance is awful. My girls and I have private insurance through Unicare. It's very affordable and they offer all types of plans to meet your needs. We have the plan with the $3000 deductible however office visits, RX, etc have $30 copays and are not subject to the deductible.
You can go to their website to get a quote, unicare.com

have you looked into carrying COBRA to extend your current policy up to 18 months?

I've heard that United Healthcare has the best plans. You can Google it and research it from there...

You should look into COBRA, it's required by Fed law that if he had insurance with the company, that they have to offer it to him when he's laid off. However, it may be too expensive. I think we had to pay almost $2k a month for the insurance.
There's also insurance for major medical/emergencies only. You'd have to pay cash for any doctor visits for the regular stuff but if you're child got appendicitis or you broke a leg, you'd be covered.
Good luck and hope he finds a job soon!

Hi J.,
First of all, let me say how sorry I am that your husband is being laid off. I know this must be a very scary time for your family. When I started my business, Errands A.S.A.P., I had to find private health insurance. Pam Malone of Malone and Associates worked hard to find me something affordable and I'm sure she'll work as hard for your family. Phone her at ###-###-#### or cell: ###-###-####
Good luck!
