Medical Abortion

Can anyone share their personal experience after having a medical, not surgical, abortion. I've read a lot of websites so I know the ins and outs and the mechanics of it but I'd like to hear from real women their experience, if they changed their minds right before and why, what it was like, did you feel naueseaus/vomiting, etc? Basically, what can someone expect during/afterwards? PM of course if you don't want to share it here.

What can I do next?

I would discuss this with your doctor, I am afraid what you may find here is simply and bunch of nasty judgments from the anti-choice crowd. Do what is best for you, and I wish you luck with whatever you choose. I do know several woman who have aborted fetuses. None of them regret it, although some are sad from time to time when they think about the "what ifs". Just search your heart, and meet with a counselor. Planned Parenthood has counselors available that can talk to you about all of this.

I am sorry that you are not getting your question answered from a few. If you don't want to answer the question, don't respond, just move on to the next question ladies! This site may not have been the right place for this particular question, as there are many very judgmental opinions here.

My aunt had a heart condition that having a pregnancy would severely complicate. Well, she got pregnant and the doctor made it very clear that she could lose her life if she carried the baby to term., She was prescribed the medical abortion drug, RU-486. It has to be taken within the first 9 weeks of pregnancy. There was a initial pill given, and then a day or 2 later, she took several others a few hours apart until everything passed. She had cramping and bleeding for about as long as a regular period, and was very nauseous, I do think she threw up for a day or 2. She was given antibiotics to prevent infection. Returned to her MD in 2 weeks to be sure it "worked" and she was fine. She had a fairly uneventful experience as I have heard that this particular ru486 has some history of severe side effects, and a few deaths. I realize this is minimal info, but it's all I've got. Atleast I tried to directly answer your question :)

Either way you are losing a baby, so there will be illness, physically and emotionally. No magic wand for this one.

I have a friend who has lost a number of babies in the first trimester and each time she had to choose between a surgical or a medical abortion. She says the surgical is easier both physically and emotionally. I am so sorry you are dealing with whatever it is that has brought you to this place in your life. Much love to you.

A family member of mine had a medical abortion, and close friend had a surgical one. Either one has side effects. The surgical one for my friend was excrutiating, painful, both mentally and physically. The medical abortion is when they give you medications to cause a miscarriage. Both felt nauseous before and after, heavy bleeding, cramping, sweats, back/loin pain, stomach upset, and dizziness. It was probably the worst experience for both of them. My family member didn't tell anyone she was pregnant, and had the medical abortion alone. It was very hard on her, and painful. My close friend had an infection afterwards, as well as had to have one of her ovaries removed.

I am telling you this, not to scare you, but to let you know their story. For them, I watched them in pain, and in tears. Although they both are relatively safe procedures/medications, their are risks, and side effects.

It was extremely hard for me to see this kind of pain, especially when they are very close to me. I wouldn't /couldn't voluntarily go through something like this, regardless of situation. My prayers are with you.
