My little man just turned one today! (Technically yesterday 3/3 I am just still awake lol) I have started him on solids, but want a variety of meals to choose from. Would you mind letting me know what was your toddler's favorite meal? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow thank you guys! Seems like I am already on the right track then because we do for breakfast: baby yogurt, strawberries, bananas, wheat oatmeal, apples (the diced ones that come in a baby jar), cheerios (Laura you know he loves those!!), watermelon, ect..
Lunch: veggies, or a Gerber microwavable meal, or a chicken nugget
Dinner: a meat jar, or another microwavable meal
And of course milk with each meal.. I've got him on different snacks too. I guess I just felt like he wasn't getting a variety because we eat anything from enchiladas to stuffed bell pepper to squash spaghetti. But then again, he did just turn one and only has 2 teeth so far so I can't expect him to just ditch all his familiar and easy to chew foods and start eating completely with us!

Someone asked if we had him on a sippy cup I believe? Yes we have been trying since he was 7 months old, but I just stopped nursing for good yesterday so we are working on it. He did well with a bottle but a sippy cup not so much-- he gets better every day so I am hoping to get rid of that bottle soon, like.. today would be nice :)

Thank you ladies for your responses, I really do enjoy reading them and appreciate how supportive everyone is on here!

When my boys were toddlers they loved:

mac 'n' cheese with peas in it
banana sandwiches
pasta
tomato soup (I let them put gold fish in it themselves for fun)
chopped steak
mashed potatoes
cooked carrots
any fruit (especially strawberries and watermelon)

Pretty much anything we eat they'll eat

My favorite books, I borrowed them from the library so many times, are:

Idiots Guide to Feeding Your Baby & Toddler

Baby & Toddler Meals for Dummies

My husband finally bought them for me and I nearly wore them out. My 3 yr. old grandson eats just about anything I put in front of him, his favorite is fresh cooked peas...yes, peas. I think these books are a big reason because they gave me good ideas and the ability for me to see what others were giving their children. Have fun!

Annabelle Karmel has a great set of books on recipes and advice for feeding babies, toddler and the whole family with wholesome foods. Google her to find her website. You can get her books second hand on e-bay for quite reasonable prices. My little girl loves bananas, scrambled eggs for breakfast with lots of veggies, cheese and even meat (all diced fine otherwise she picks the bits of veg out), oatmeal with raisons or pureed fruit and milk, muesli, bits of cheese, bits of lunch meat, bread sticks, soft fruit / granola bars, grapes cut in 1/4's, curry with rice (mildly spiced), enchiladas, lasagne, and the list goes on. Hope this helps!

You can try canned peas, carrots and green beans (the no salt added type). My daughter loved them, and it was a good starter because they are SOOO soft. Once your son starts chewing better and has a few more teeth, you can move up to the frozen/fresh steamed type that can require more chewing. I used to give my daughter diced banana, strawberries, melon, anything really soft, she loved yogurt the minute she tried it, toaster waffles to knaw on, shredded mozzerella cheese too. Its so cute to watch their little faces try new stuff! Now is NOT too early to introduce utensils every so often, get some good safe ones, and he will be using them like a pro in no time. Have fun!

by 12 months my daughter was eating what we ate. Her favorite, though, was pasta --mushroom ravioli to be specific-- and peas.

There are only 3 rules that your pediatrician should mention to you at this point regarding his diet:

1. Be careful of anything that might be a choking hazard (I'm including a list from the American Academy of Pediatrics)
2. Be mindful of any foods for which your family has a known food allergy
3. Make sure he's getting the appropriate amount of Vitamin D milk in addition to his solids.

Otherwise, he can eat anything you're eating as long as it's cut into small enough pieces.

Have fun eating your cake on Saturday little man. Stepanie, sleep is required for chasing him;) At that age we typically just had a variety of foods that we would rotate around and then start introducing things from our meals when they got more teeth. Here's some of thier favorites... Yougurt, applesauce, sliced cheese, turkey dogs, eggs, peas, carrots, peanut butter sandwiches, and eggs.

Love y'all
