Hi moms- need some help. Do you remember when you were a child and had (or went to) a birthday party at McDonalds?? I thought that it was the coolest thing. Do they do that anymore??

Please let me know what you know and how I can get this done.

PS: It is for my 4 yr old son's birthday and we live in South Florida.

Thanks as always moms!!

What can I do next?

We went to one earlier this year and it was fun and the mom said it was super cheap compared to other party options. I personally enjoyed the limitless soda and it was a GREAT excuse to get up and move around.

The kids were more interested in playing more than eating so I highly doubt a birthday party to McDonald's would destroy their morals/heath/or anything else for that matter.

I went to one for a 3 yo last year. Each kid got a $5 paper coupon for a happy meal, the kids played or ate and after a while, the bday girl blew out the candles on her store bought cake and opened presents right there. From what I understand, the bday parents didn't make a reservation and the McD's staff didn't have a problem.

It was on a Sunday afternoon and we had the playland all to ourselves. It was awesome.

Seemed like a cheap fun alternative to me. With all his friends having $250-$500 bday parties at bounce houses or entertainment venues, I'm tempted to have my 5 yo's next bday at McD's, if anything, to rebel against society about over the top bday parties for little kids. Or maybe even at Burger King...at least you get to walk out w/a paper crown!

Yes, of course! Now they have indoor playgyms rather than just sitting around eating a happy meal. I had a party at home for my son thinking it would be the most cost effective way but it was very expensive since I provided food for adults and it was a lot of work getting the house ready and cleaning up. I would totally do a McDonald's party! Don't you have a McDonald's near you? Oh, and Dana, seriously??? If you don't agree with McDonald's then don't take your kid. But to have them miss out on a birthday because of YOUR beliefs is annoying.

Yes, they have mcdonalds with party rooms. I think you have to book online. Go to the mcd's website.

I remember going to one of those as a kid.....It was so much fun! I would just call a local store and see if they still do those. Most restaurants are franchised, so it would be up to the owner of the store, assuming McDonald's corporation doesn't expressly prohibit it.

I would think a bit about it. If we were invited to a party at McDonalds - we wouldn't go. I cannot support their marketing to kids, the nutritional content of the 'food' and their lack of environmental concern. I would consider whether all your son's friends would attend.

I had my sons 3rd birthday at one in phoenix and I invited his whole class because the package is for up to 10 kids I think... And it was 75$ which included happy meals and a cake/ice cream. It was a blast!

We used to do it as kids, too.
They don't do it like that anymore.
You can still have it there though.
Be sure to pick one w/the cool jungle gym outside play area.
Ask about bringing in cake and ice cream.
Have fun and happy b-day to your little one.

I don't know if they still do them or not, but yes, had one (I think for my 7th?) and it was awesome! I still remember the 6 girls we invited and the subsequent spend the night party. It was a good birthday! Just call your local McDonald's and ask the manager.

My colleague @ work just had one for her 4 yr old daughter a couple of weeks ago. They invited just the neighborhood kids (about 5 altogether) and she said they had a blast and it was very economical. I would call the nearest McDonalds near you and get some prices. Definitely saved the mess in her house, they played and I believe they get ice cream cones and a happy meal. The parents just dropped the kids off or maybe some of them stayed but they paid for their own meal and understood it was only the kids being paid for. I think it's a great idea!

Call your local McD's. One of the shops near me with a fun jungle gym will not close the playspace unless you pay for 50 people (@10 per person). Worth it though to not have a free for all, esp if you have it on a weekend. We loved having our parties there as kids. I agree, not healthy but I do let my kids have it every so often. I have been thinking about it for my daughter's birthday this fall.

Have you asked your local McDonald's about it? What do they say?

Yes they do. I am planning to do one for my daughters 4th birthday in January. Just go and ask for the manager and set it up. My neice had her 4th and 5th birthday parties there. Now my daughter wants hers there. My BIL told us how much it costs. Really reasonable. He spent $100 and there where 10 kids, cake, ice cream, favors and some of us adults got something to eat. Plus he had soda and coffee for the adults at all times. Not a bad price at all. I had a scooby doo party for my daughter for her 3rd and it cost me almost $300 all said and done. Plus all the hard work that I put into it. This way there is someone there to get everything for you. I can't wait to just sit back and relax and actually enjoy her party without having to work at it.
