Marriage Counselling.
I have been married for two years. Our marriage is in trouble and I am hoping that seeing a marriage counsellor may provide us the help required to put our relationship on a solid foundation. Can moms recommend suitable professionals in Dallas or suburbs?
So What Happened?™
Thank you all very much for your help! I wish I had provided more details as the references of help have more information than I gave out. From my perspective, the problems are his deliberate secretiveness, especially when it comes to his family members all of whom live in Dallas, his excessive attachment to them, his neglect of myself. I feel completely lonely and isolated in this marriage. We went out for 18 months, but I never saw this coming. This creates such hurt and disappointment in what could be a happy marriage.
I will now try to persuade him to go to a marriage counselor with me.

My husband and I were truly helped by Dr. Paul Bowles. I have sent at least 3 couples to him over the past ten years and all have reported good results and assistance. Dr. Bowles primarily works to increase communication skills. Incidentally, he also works with quite a few executives at corporations working on the same communications skills. As a result, I believe my husband felt more comfortable with him than he might with other counselors - because his techniques really helped in the business world - my husband felt that he was gaining skills that would help him in his career and he sort of justified the whole "counseling" experience that way. Dr. Bowles is on Hillcrest near 635; you can find him in the yellow pages. good luck - my husband and I are still together more than ten years after we worked with Dr. Bowles. We fall back on those communication skills taught by Dr. Bowles even now.

I highly recomment Lifeworks Counseling. My husband and I are going there and talk with Miriam Cowles. She is a wonderful Christian counselor who has helped our marriage so much. We have only been married 4 months and are having some issues and she has truly been a blessing from God. I enjoyed her so much, that I recently started going on my own to her to deal with some individual issues and things are improving. Lifeworks is wonderful and I highly recommend it.

My name is N. Tsai and I am the Director for NAMICCO (The National Alliance On Mental Illness for Collin County). I work with many doctors, theraps etc. I would need to know more of what the issues are to give you a proper referal. Example are drugs and a;lchol a problem, mood disorders, general disagreements, etc. When choosing a profesional in this area you have to know what you are looking for I am sorry to say there are as many quack's in this field as good ones.

My husband and I have had great success with Pam Abernathy at ROCA Counseling. They are located at Abrams/Walnut in Richardson. She has done wonders for us and we still go see her from time to time to keep us headed in the right direction! Her number is ###-###-####. Give her a call, she will put you both at ease.
