Looking to Move North of Charlotte, NC

My family will hopefully be moving in about 3 to 6 months. We want to be somewhere between Statesville & Charlotte.

What I would like to know is what are the best sites to hunt for rental houses (i.e. Craigslist)? What are the good school districts? Which areas should we avoid? I need an inexpensive area that will be good for my family for a few years.

We're moving from about 3 hours away to be closer to family who lives in Statesville. My husband will be working in Charlotte so we can't be too far from there.

What can I do next?

Allen Tate Realty has the best search engine, and is the largest realtor in town. I prefer the south side of town (best schools) but, that is the opposite site of town as Statesville (north.)

There are good schools in the North, but I am not as familiar with them. Huntersville is just outside of Charlotte and offers a lot of good neighborhoods (and is on the way to Statesville.)

There are many people renting their homes now, instead of selling them, due to the economy- so I still think a realtor will be a good choice. We rented a house recently, and I "googled" rental house in Charlotte, and found several rental companies. Once we decided where we wanted to live, the best way is to look in the paper (the Charlotte Observer classifieds- they are also online) and driving around the area we desired.

I posted on Craigslist, saying what we were looking for- but received no response. I also did not see many rental houses posted on there.

Good luck. Hope that helps.

Look In Huntersville area.. Its great, safe and right near "Lake Norman" I will tell you the commute to Charlotte from exit 25 in the morning is hectic. We lived at both exit 25 and 23, and its crazy but the traffic is a lot better past 23. :) Good Luck! I now live in Fort Mill and Love it. Just south of carowinds. :) Hope you like it here!

I see you are in Fletcher.. I am from Asheville and used to work in that area! :)
