Nurse Moving to Fort Mill SC
I have another relocation request. I have a nurse whose assignment is in Fort Mill SC. I was thinking about finding housing in South Charlotte. Is this a good idea? Is this a good area for a mom and kids? You all have been so helpful in the other two areas I had kids going for that I thank you!

I live in South Charlotte near Stonecrest and love it. I also work in Fort Mill once a week and the drive is easy. Pineville is also nice, although Matthews or Mint Hill might be a problem with traffic on I-485 depending on what time of day/evening. Good Luck!

South Charlotte is great! We lived there in a condo before kids and then ended up building in Mint Hill-- we still travel to South Charlotte for activities and our children go to school there (private). Mint Hill is less expensive if it's a single mom-- there are lots of rentals and new construction.

Yes, South Charlotte has some very nice areas for living. I would recommend the South Park area. Also, Pineville has some great places to live and even Ft Mill itself is very nice. Also Rock Hill would be a great place to consider. Pineville and Rock Hill are actually much closer to Ft. Mill than South Charlotte. Keep in mind also that Charlotte has some awful traffic problems! Good luck!

M. - I live in South Charlotte and I have never been happier! I live off of Ardrey Kell Rd. I have 3 sons, ages 6, 7, and 10. They are in the public school here. There are not many areas of Charlotte where the schools are good, this is hands down the best. I pulled my boys out of a private Christian school to attend the schools here. All of our neighbors use the pub. sch. it is that good. If you have any questions at all, I'd love to talk to you! My email is ____@____.com luck!

I'm a REALTOR in South Charlotte and also licensed in South Carolina. I have many friends that live in the Ballantyne area. I live in Waxhaw which is an awesome place for families. There are many great areas/communities here and including Fort Mill. Most families are not originally from Charlotte, so alot of these neighborhoods are filled with moms that are or have been new to the area and looking for others to network with. If you want to chat feel free to email or call me. Good Luck.

Fort Mill is a really nice area - it has really gotten developed in the last few years, and there are plenty of families with small children that live in that area. Why not just move them there, and then they won't have to spend so much on gas commuting? There are moms groups there and everything. On top of that, the cost of living (housing, taxes, etc.) are less there - and they'd have the convenience of being so close to Charlotte.

Hello M.,
My family moved to the Charlotte area 4 years ago. We had considered South Charlotte, as our employers were both located in this area, but we opted to move to Fort Mill, instead. We have 2 children, 2 and 10 at the time of our move, and the safety and education of our kids was our highest priority. We couldn't be happier with our choice. The Fort Mill school district is the best in the state and among the top 10 in the nation compared to districts with comparable demographics, size, etc. We feel safe here and we love the schools. The elementary school system in South Charlotte is OK, but the Middle Schools and High Schools leave much to be desired. The Charlotte school system has a new Superintendent, Peter Gorman, and he is doing a lot to help improve the schools. However, I imagine it will take some time to undo the damage that was caused over several years of mismanagement.
Fort Mill is just 15 - 20 minutes from downtown Charlotte. So the town is close enough to enjoy the opportunities that Charlotte presents, but you can get away form the hustle and bustle. I hope this information is useful. Good luck!

My husband and I live in South Charlotte and we love the economical housing choices that are in excellent school districts. I recommend housing off Rea Rd. and all of my neighbors really like Hawk Ridge Elem.
