I have another relocation request. I have a nurse whose assignment is in Fort Mill SC. I was thinking about finding housing in South Charlotte. Is this a good idea? Is this a good area for a mom and kids? You all have been so helpful in the other two areas I had kids going for that I thank you!

What can I do next?

I live in South Charlotte near Stonecrest and love it. I also work in Fort Mill once a week and the drive is easy. Pineville is also nice, although Matthews or Mint Hill might be a problem with traffic on I-485 depending on what time of day/evening. Good Luck!

My husband and I live in South Charlotte and we love the economical housing choices that are in excellent school districts. I recommend housing off Rea Rd. and all of my neighbors really like Hawk Ridge Elem.

Hello M.,
My family moved to the Charlotte area 4 years ago. We had considered South Charlotte, as our employers were both located in this area, but we opted to move to Fort Mill, instead. We have 2 children, 2 and 10 at the time of our move, and the safety and education of our kids was our highest priority. We couldn't be happier with our choice. The Fort Mill school district is the best in the state and among the top 10 in the nation compared to districts with comparable demographics, size, etc. We feel safe here and we love the schools. The elementary school system in South Charlotte is OK, but the Middle Schools and High Schools leave much to be desired. The Charlotte school system has a new Superintendent, Peter Gorman, and he is doing a lot to help improve the schools. However, I imagine it will take some time to undo the damage that was caused over several years of mismanagement.

Fort Mill is just 15 - 20 minutes from downtown Charlotte. So the town is close enough to enjoy the opportunities that Charlotte presents, but you can get away form the hustle and bustle. I hope this information is useful. Good luck!

Fort Mill is a really nice area - it has really gotten developed in the last few years, and there are plenty of families with small children that live in that area. Why not just move them there, and then they won't have to spend so much on gas commuting? There are moms groups there and everything. On top of that, the cost of living (housing, taxes, etc.) are less there - and they'd have the convenience of being so close to Charlotte.

I'm a REALTOR in South Charlotte and also licensed in South Carolina. I have many friends that live in the Ballantyne area. I live in Waxhaw which is an awesome place for families. There are many great areas/communities here and including Fort Mill. Most families are not originally from Charlotte, so alot of these neighborhoods are filled with moms that are or have been new to the area and looking for others to network with. If you want to chat feel free to email or call me. Good Luck.

M. - I live in South Charlotte and I have never been happier! I live off of Ardrey Kell Rd. I have 3 sons, ages 6, 7, and 10. They are in the public school here. There are not many areas of Charlotte where the schools are good, this is hands down the best. I pulled my boys out of a private Christian school to attend the schools here. All of our neighbors use the pub. sch. it is that good. If you have any questions at all, I'd love to talk to you! My email is ____@____.com luck!

Yes, South Charlotte has some very nice areas for living. I would recommend the South Park area. Also, Pineville has some great places to live and even Ft Mill itself is very nice. Also Rock Hill would be a great place to consider. Pineville and Rock Hill are actually much closer to Ft. Mill than South Charlotte. Keep in mind also that Charlotte has some awful traffic problems! Good luck!

Hi
My name is Jackie Foster. I have lived in Fort Mill SC now for 14+ years. My son graduated from FM high. He was in the marching band which is still the best and most decorated marching band in all of the East Coast. We also have competed in the west coast. My son took a trip to the Rose bowl his senior year to march with the band in the Rose bowl parade. Kris left Michigan a solid D- student who hated anything to do with academics. We moved to SC and then were told Fort Mill had the highest ranking school in all Sc and NC. After only a few weeks at Fort Mill school he became an A- B+ student. I give the credit to the constant and positive support of the excellant Fort Mill teachers. He then went on to receive his Masters at Columbia International University. He was class vice President and then President his senior year. He met the girl of his dreams and they married and moved to S Korea to teach English for almost 2 years. They are both working at a local University in Kentucky and are the Youth leaders and My son is the associate Pastor.
I cannot say enough about Fort Mill. It is a wonderful town that still carries its small town atmosphere even though it is only minutes from Charlotte NC.
In fact if you are looking we are just getting ready to put our two story three bedroom 2,000 sq ft home APP on the market. It will be priced under 200,000. We had Lowes install a dishwasher in Aug and it ruined our floor and cabinets. We are in the process of receiving a whole new 35,000 dollar kitchen that should be complete no later then July 08. Be aware. We live in a neighborhood of children and retired people. We have only 33 families living in this subdivision. We all know each other and are very close. Not a bad neighbor in the bunch. We will miss our little community but are looking forward to downsizing and moving a little closer to our Granddaughter North of Charlotte. We have a retired school teacher from Mi across the street and her husband is retired military. Next door is a family with 6 very well behaved and loving children, who are home schooled. The oldest of which goes to the private school in Charlotte where his Father teaches. We have more Fort Mill teachers in this neighborhood then any other in Fort Mill. I cannot praise the AREA or the people that live here enough.
Fort Mill has always been considered the finest area in or around Charlotte. It still is.. Crime is basically non existant. We have had more problems recently with growth but we are still one of the LOwest areas for crime anywhere in the Charlotte area by a wide margin.
Yes Fort Mill is wonderful. Ranked Best schools in North and South Carolina also for years. If you are looking for a home in a private setting on a small culldesac with a large yard for kids to play in send me an email. ____@____.com realtors make 6%. We do not have it listed yet so we can sell it a little lower without a realtor. I truly did not mean for this to be an advertisement for our home, but we sure would love to see a young family move into this home. But you must promise to love the kids next door as much as we do. You must be very good friends with their Mother Kate and you must adore Shirley across the culdesac. Did I mention there are only two houses in this culldesac. Ours and Shirley's. You must also promise that your kids will adopt Kate's neighbors. They are Doris and Ira. Their grandchildren visit regularrly and all the kids in the neighborhood get together in our culldesac to ride bikes, play hide and seek and play make believe. Ours is an old fashioned safety first neighborhood.
Two families have had to leave this neighborhood to take transfers out of state. upon retireing they moved rigght back here again.. Yes it is That great a neighborhood. Another great thing is the activity club at the end of the street the next street over from us. It has four pools. 2 are for toddlers and babbies. Arobics classes daily and weekends. It has Tennis and Racquet ball and Basket ball inside and out. It is the best place in town for all the Baseball, swimming team and soccer team matches. The swim team is one of the best and the day care IS the absolute BEST you will ever find. I have just got to quit now.. but I truly could go on and on One more very important thing. Fort Mill has some of the Best churches I have ever attended. They all work together for the sake of the community family and especially the children in the area. Honestly, There is NO place I could reccommend more. The local colleges are reasonably priced and offer a wide variety of degrees. Ok Ok I gotta just stop. Write me if you have any other questions. I will be glad to help you with anything you need.

South Charlotte is great! We lived there in a condo before kids and then ended up building in Mint Hill-- we still travel to South Charlotte for activities and our children go to school there (private). Mint Hill is less expensive if it's a single mom-- there are lots of rentals and new construction.
