Looking for Pediatrician in North Keller Area

Hi. I recently moved to Keller and am looking for a recommendation for a pediatrician for my one year old son. I visited one of the local pediatric groups but was not impressed....felt like they pushed too many patients through and we were very rushed by staff. Getting in to see a doc when my son is sick is a priority but I want a doctor and staff who are not going to make me fee rushed and that my questions are holding them up from getting to their next patient. I would welcome any recommendations and reasons for why you like the doc you have selected for your child.

Thanks.

So What Happened?

Thank you to all who replied. Your comments were incredibly helpful. I ended up selecting Southlake Family Medicine that way the entire family can have docs in the same location. Some of the doctors mentioned were not taking new patients but we ended up selecting Dr. Johnson. We were scheduled for a well visit in a few weeks but of course the minute you do that the little one gets sick. I called this morning and they got us right in. I really liked the entire staff, everyone took lots of time to make sure all of our questions were answered. Much, much better than the first group we went to. Thanks!

It's a bit farther, but we go to Bruce Martin at Cook's at Precint Line and Mid-Cities. He's great and we've never had a problem, never felt rushed. We had previously gone to Kid Care in Keller and Fossil Creek and HATED them both.

I moved to Keller in Feb from San Antonio... I use Carenow for sick visits- no ped can beat getting in to see a dr within 2-3 hours (and you can put your name on the list online and wait for them to call you when a room opens- instead of waiting to see what else your child can catch;). When it came to the wellness checkup, I called several of the doctors listed by the other moms (in Southlake, Cook Children's, Kidcare) and none could get me in for at least a month, if they were accepting new patients. The Kidcare receptionist (or whoever does appointments) was rude to me on the phone when I told her my insurance- on the website it says they take it, but she said no. whatever. I did find a "new guy" off Alta Vista- A-1 Kid Docs. I called on a Monday morning and my kids had their wellness check up that afternoon. NICE GUY!!! Very good with the kids- he and his wife opened the practice with him as the ped on one side of the building and his wife the family physician on the other side(joined by the receptionist desk). They were all super nice, even when it was time for my four year olds 4 shots!!!

Not an easy decision... good luck!!!

I see your getting mixed responses about Kid Care Pediatriacs, but to each their own, each experience is different for the individual, but I will share my experience with you. Dr Fricker, at Kid care is wonderful! He came highly recommended, before I gave birth to my daughter, Sarah was born with a list of health problems, her bladder was on the outside of her body, and she had a large VSD (heart murmer) While she has her specialist, Dr. Fricker is the captian of the ship. He is very caring, and wonderful with my daughter, she is high maintenance! and while they are a busy practice, he has always taken time with me and my daughter. The office staff is always friendly to me, and work us in the same day, if sarah comes down with something. Usually she has a UTI, and the head nurse always does a good job with giving her a cath. With Sarah being a little "special" down there. It can be a little intimaditing! She is always patient, and want's to make sure she gets it right the first time. I wish you good luck in finding a doctor for your child.

Dr. Erica Zwernaman at Southlake Family Medicine is JUST awesome!! She came highly recommended... from fellow doctors and mommies alike! We just moved from California with two girls - 5 & 9. She took a long time with us - getting their history, making sure she covered everything. I liked how she conversed with me about car seats, nutrition, sleep, etc. She truly cared about prevention & healthcare! My girls loved her also!

My husband went to Dr. Harder for a primary care physician and liked him too!

Steer clear of KidCare Pediatrics. We went there and had to switch. We now see Dr. David Nichols in Southlake. He is part of the Cook's Network. I know that it probably isn't in your area but we are very happy. I have heard from other mothers on Mamasource how disappointed they were in KidCare as well.

I moved here in Feb from MO, and took my kids to Kid Care and didnt have a positive experience. I have since found out the my Dr (a PA) Christine Pruitt accepts small children, so we've moved them to their office. She is WONDERFUL and does not make you feel rushed. She really takes time and listens to your views and explains things well. She is located in Cornerstone Family & Sports Medicine on Keller Parkway.

Dr. Kim Mangham with Cook Children's on 1709 / Southlake Blvd is VERY good. We moved to this area last year and have been going to her every since.

She takes her time and doesn't rush you. She asks questions and makes sure you are at ease and answers any concerns you may have. Her nurse is very good too.

Hi L.,

We moved from Austin to Keller a year ago.

We see Dr Fricker at Kid Card Pediatrics on Rufe Snow.
The doctors are ok but not the best. They are good at getting you in when your child is sick.

Good luck

We've used Southlake Family Medicine for 4.5rs and absolutely LOVE them. Same staff, although they've added more since we started going there. We use Dr O'brien primarily for the kids but we've seen almost every Dr in the office and really like them all. Dr Zwernaman would be my alternative favorite (her ubby is my ob/gyn in Ft Worth). We've always been able to get in same day for anything important, on call system is wonderful..we've enver ever been rushed out of there...If anything I think the Dr's are incredibly thorough and always give us the time we need.
My daughter is 9 and son is about to be 3 with severe allergies and allergy related asthma so to say we're there a lot is an understatement.

They are located right off 1709 and Byron Nelson and the ph # is ###-###-####. Their website wwww.southlakefamilymedicine.com also offers a lot of info about the practice Dr's, appts, etc.
