I am a single mom looking for one on one care for my newborn boy starting in January when I have to return to work. I am not looking to spend over $250/week. Any suggestions? I live in Norwood Park- near Niles and Norridge.

What can I do next?

We live in that area and my sister in law called Immaculate Conception Parish and got some referrals - she found one on one for $200.00 a week. I would give them a call. I also found my babysitters through a church referral - we have used them for 6 years - it is a good safe route - best of luck!

All of the nannies that I have ever heard of charge between $10- $15/ an hour. My only suggestion may be an au pair who lives with you. I believe they are usually cheaper. If you are interested, I know someone who does placement for them through a company. Let me know.

Having explored lots of daycare options for my 7 month old and 28 month old, I hate to tell you that one-on-one care for $250 a week will be VERY hard to find -- especially is you want someone legal and or liscenced. I've found the going rate to have someone come to your home is between $9-12 an hour plus paid vacation. You can expect to pay between $200-$250 a week for home daycare where you bring your baby to a licensed private home with a small group of kids. Spots for infants can be hard to find as the state regulates ratio of caregivers to kids (no more than 3 kids under 24 months to one care giver). That being said, I've heard that craig's list (www.craigslist.com) is a good resource for finding childcare. Good luck!
