Looking for Nice Summer Resorts up North

Our family takes a family trip every year in the summer. We like to go up north (that sounds so Minnesotan!) and be on a lake somewhere. In the past we've gone to Door County and Breezy Point. We'd like it to be 3-5 (5 being on the high end) hours away. We are looking for a new place this year and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to go. We want a nice resort and are willing to pay for it. Breezy Point and Craguns were nice, but they were old. We like to be right on the water and like a town that has fun things for us to go and do as a family. Any recommendations? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We go to Kavanaughs every year in Brainerd (on Lake Sylvan), it's a beautiful resort! They have updated all of their lodges. They have an indoor and outdoor pool, 2 sandy beaches, nice playsets, walking and biking trails, volley ball area, boat rental, etc. My kids look forward to the rubber duck races that they have in their man made streams. We love it so much up there that our family bought a 3 bedroom cottage.

I totally forgot to add, another great resort that we have been to is Bluefin Bay (Tofte, North of Duluth on Lake Superior)a 238 mile drive from the Twin Cities. They also have and indoor and outdoor pool, bike rental, movie rental, nightly Smore gatherings, etc. We did a lot of hiking and kayaking. There are tons of things to do, check out their website. It's also a great place to go to in the winter!

What about Lutsen? It's lovely there. Though as I write, my husband who is reading over my shoulder, just told me the news reported they coincidentally had a lodge fire today!

There's also Quadna resort in Hill City, MN..and Cross Lake is supposed to be nice. Split Rock LIghthouse in Two Harbors, MN. Gooseberry Falls is nice too.

You could go up by the Hayward, WI area. They have a lot of nice resorts, cute downtown, and minigolf/go-carts in town for the kids. I could give you more info if you're interested. It's probably about a 3 hour drive from the cities.

I'm not sure how far up north this resort is but my cousins rented it last year and they're going again this year. It's called the Quarterdeck. It's right on Gull Lake. I was going to go with them but cancelled because another trip came up and pulled my money back for this other trip. This resort for the on the lake lodge was running up over $1,000 for 4 or 5 nights.

We rented a simple cabin in the Gunflint Trail area and thought that was nice and it was close to the water. We They have many resorts to pick from up in that area so maybe you can search google Gunflint Trail and see what comes up for the resorts.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
