I'm new here. Heard about this site through a friend, so thought I try asking a question and see what I get in return. We've just recently found out I'm pregnant with number 3. I want to wait a little a couple more weeks before telling, but I would like to get some feedback and ideas for unique ways to tell family and friend that we're having another baby. First time was with bibs, second we just blurtted it out, but this time we want to make it fun. What are some fun ways that you told your family and friends you were pregnant?

My second daughter was due in the beginning of October...so I asked my family "Did I tell you what Faith is going to be for Halloween?" The answer "A big sister" I know its early to ask them that question now...but it was a total blindside to my family and friends!!! Have fun and congrats!

I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my daughter right around Christmas. We bought a frame that said "cute as a button" and I made a cute insert that said "this frame is reserved for baby Smith due August 2008." And then I wrapped it up and gave it as a gift!

If your family celebrates Christmas you could either give people presents from "Smith Baby #3" or slip a package under the tree for "Smith Baby #3", depending on how you do your gift exchange. If the present is left under the tree, someone will wonder who it belongs to and then they will read the card and be like, huh? Then when whoever opens it up, it can be something for a newborn baby?? I don't know, it sounded better in my head. LOL. :)

My best friend had everyone over for her birthday. She got everyone to sit down for a picture, and they set the timer on the camera. Right as the timer went off, she and her husband shouted "Surprise, we're pregnant!" Now they have a great keepsake of everyone's surprised faces when they announced the big news. Great idea if you will be celebrating Christmas with family.

My hub and I were living in California when we became pregnant, so we wanted to do something fun from far away. We purchased shadow boxes for his parents and mine (you could make your own; I'm just not super-crafty and was crazy-busy at work), and each had a small plaque put inside that said "Surprise, you are going to be Grandparents!" It had a copy of the ultrasound picture in it amongst other Grandparent- themed items. They opened them together at dinner and were so surprised and excited. (I asked each of them to take the box to dinner as a surprise for the other one, so they didn't have a clue.)

Hope this helps. Congrats to you!

Well with it being the Christmas season if you have family at your home put a small stocking up with a question mark instead of a name. Hope this works well for you.

You could work out a way to use this one. My husband works in manufacturing so for our first child we told his dad that we were going into a new business - manufacturing tricycle motors.... get it? (if not, just ask this question "what makes a tricycle go?") cute huh?? :)

When my sister was pregnant with baby #2, she got a t-shirt for her daughter that said "Big Sister," then just waited for everybody to catch on. It was really fun waiting to see how long it would take to sink in- my Mom actually read the shirt out loud but didn't realize the significance for HOURS. We still laugh about it.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

how i told my then fiancee:

before i picked him up from work, i went to walmart and got a little baby bottle and put it on our bed next to the positive pregnancy test. Since he always takes a shower after work, i expected him to see it, but when he didnt say anything after going to our room, i went in and asked 'did you see it' and pointed to the bed. he turned and looked, and just stopped for a second. since this was a few days before my birthday, i jokingly said 'well you already got me one present for my birthday!' he laughed and hugged me, and was so excited. it was a great way to do it.

one of my friends also suggested getting one of those 'baby on board' stickers and putting on my belly. that would have been hilarious too.

When we were pregnant with our son, we gave our parents presents that were baby shoes. This time around, we told everyone that our son (3 years old) has some news to share. And he got to tell everyone that he's going to be a big brother. It really surprised everyone and involved our son greatly. Anyway you do decide I'm sure will be a delightful way! Congratulations!

When I was pregnant with my 2nd child, I found out in late October. We decided to tell everyone at Christmastime when we celebrated.

I made up a card that said something to the effect of "Merry Christmas Grandma and Grandpa", and on the inside, included a note from Baby #2. Essentially the message said that "I am looking forward to meeting you on about August 15th", and was signed by Baby #2.

Since I wasn't showing, and no one had been told, it was a big surprise to all. [Hubby had a hard time not saying anything for about 2 months, tho].

When we presented the cards, we did it at the end of the Christmas celebration so it wouldn't "take away" from my daughter's Christmas. I wanted our announcement to be separate (if you will).

Just a thought...

How about a Merry Christmas card from "The Baby" - or getting books like "Chicken Soup for the Grandmother's/Grandfather's Soul"? When I was pregnant - I told my husband and children I was by giving them books - it was pretty neat.

Have a shirt made for your YOUNGEST child that says "I'm the big brother/sister" Then have him or her wear it around your friends and family and see how long it takes for them to get it. If they don't notice ask them how they like the childs new shirt.

I agree with Beth, I have always told my husband when we have our next baby I want my daughter to wear a shirt that says I'm the big sister and see how long it takes people to realize.

One of our friends told us she was pregnant by sending a picture of her son wearing a shirt that said "I'm a big brother". A day later, she sent another message to make sure people had seen the shirt. I thought it was a cute way to share the news.

I put a sonogram picture in my mothers' birthday card and it fell out when she opened the card. She didn't even know we were trying and it was the first grandchild so she was elated.

Maybe inserts in Christmas cards? Got a family member with a birthday coming up?

We went to dinner with our family (all 20+ of them, they were all in town for my cousin's college graduation) and when the waiter brought the drinks out we had him bring a baby bottle filled with little pacifier candies (made for baby showers) with a sheet of baby stationary (the kind you get at party supply stores for invitations) that I had printed "Congratulations, your going to be great Grandparents on (due date)." It was great. Needless to say the rest of the family quickly figured out what that piece of paper said.

If you will be decorating the Christmas tree together you could buy an ornament that says "parents to be" or inside of a gift box you can have a note that says "coming soon baby (your last)", " your present will be arriving (put your due date/however many months you have left).

I never personally did it but think it would be cool if I do ever get pregnant again to bake a cake and buy those little plastic babies mix it up since I wouldn't know what I was having yet and bake them inside the cake and invite people over and have everyone eat on the cake and be surprised that a baby was baked inside of it. The only concern I would have with that is that maybe someone would acccidently not notice before taking a bite but you could just tell everyone beforehand there are "surprises" inside the cake so that they wouldn't do that. The other concern would be cooking plastic?????? would it melt? Is that safe? You could always call a baker shop though and ask them how to do something like that OR how much they would charge to do it. Hey it's different though.....

A couple of Christmases ago I was about 12 weeks along with my third child. I had had an ultrasound done and had pictures of the baby. I printed something on the computer that had on the top something like: Introducing 'Smith' Baby Number 3. Then I taped one of the ultrasound pictures in the middle and on the bottom I wrote something like: Due to arrive June 29th. I made copies and wrapped them up in a small shirt size box. I gave them to my dad, my mil and my grandmother as christmas presents while we were exchanging presents. We visited them all at different times. It was really fun to see their expressions change from confusion to excitement.
