My daughter wants to cut off her long, beautiful hair (waaaah!) so I'd like to find someone to cut it who really knows that he/she is doing. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I'll be watching your responses... Because my feeling is that you should lower your expectations if you choose a salon with toy car chairs!

I take my two year old daughter to my girl, because I wanted a little bob. I was too nervous to take her to like Super Cuts or Cool Cuts for Kids...where I take my son. She was great with her and she charged only $25. I thought that was a fair price. She is at John Girard Salon on West 3rd Street and her name is Kristin.

Just thought I'd mention that if she truly has long hair, it might be enough to donate. Before you cut, go on line and check out either Wigs for Kids or Locks of Love. I think it's either 8 or 10 inches you need, but she might have enough and it's a cool way to teach her young about giving back to those in need.

Or, if she's not quite to that length yet, you might be able to talk her into keeping her hair long a little while longer. <g>

Actually most of their donations come from kids cutting their hair off because they want to help other kids. That's so cool!

I've donated twice myself and a lot of hair places do the cut for free when they know you're donating.

Tiffany Lee at tilee studios did a phenomenal, styled bob cut on my daughter's long hair. It was my daughter's 2nd haircut ever, and the first time she cried the entire time. This time she thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She charges $15 for kids and is located near campus on the Drag. She has been cutting hair for 8 years and has experience in fashion hairstyling for media as well. http://www.studiotilee.com/. Please let her know I referred you!

S.,

I have a friend that's about to graduate from cosmetology school. She's actually been cutting hair for friends for many years, but went to school to make it official. She has her own three-year old (that always has cute hair) and she's been cutting my four-year-old's hair for over a year. She's great with Kylie, and keeps cans of colored hair spray on-hand, because Kylie wanted her hair "colored like Mommy's." It's a tradition, now, and she gets a different color in her hair each time we go. :-D

Her name is Krissy Dobson, and she's currently at Avenue Five in North Austin (http://www.avenuefive.com/). She graduates next week (I'm not sure if she has any appointments available between now and then), and will be opening her own salon next month at 71 & Bee Cave - Shear Headcase. Though the salon isn't open yet, she's already taking appointments. You can email her at ____@____.com and she'll get back with you to make an appointment.

My mother, daughter, and lots of friends go to her along with myself, and I'd recommend her to anyone.

P.S. I agree with the "toy car chair" theory. The haircuts that Kylie got at the kiddie salons were always hit-n-miss.
