Looking for a Ob-gyn for My Second Child

I just found out that I'm pregnant again and I would like to use a different ob-gyn than last time. I used the guy who delivered me (John Stack) and I didn't like the pressure that I got from him with regards to inducing. I wanted to go completely natural (which I did with the exception of having my water broken) and I felt like my husband and my opinions were not respected the way I would have liked. This caused a alot of anxiety before Andrew's birth because we were worried about having to fight them on everything. I delivered at Holy Redeemer Hospital and the nurses were absolutely great, but we've since moved out to Eagleville PA and I would like to find somewhere closer to home. We are a devoutly Christian family, so I won't deliver in a hospital that performs abortions. I'd also like to stay away from anything that is too holistic and spiritual in the non-Christian sort of way. Can anyone help me out with suggestions?

What can I do next?

I live in West Norriton Township and go to Main Line Health OB/GYN, Dr. Saberin-Williams in particular. They have offices in Collegeville and I think you could deliver at any of the MLH hospitals, Paoli, Bryn Mawr or Lankenau, but you would want to ask. You can find their # online. I had a hard time switching when I moved here from NE Philly, but love Dr. Saberin-Williams.

Because I am a doula and have been to all the hospitals in the area many many times, I would suggest researching hospitals as well as the careproviders. It might be up to you to bring your spirituality with you as depending on hospital personnel to have the same mind set might be very difficult. Seek out birth centers, home birth midwives, private practice midwives (most of them birth at home or at Chestnut Hill Hospital - which has the lowest C rate here), and hospitals that have midwives working in them as they are much more flexible in general as a result of midwifery influence. Check out Cesarean rates (newest ones are on the net and in the Philly Guide to a Healthy Birth that just came out in July, 08). Feel free to call me at ###-###-####. I have lists of all the afore mentioned things.

You're not far from Mercy Suburban hospital, which is catholic. A group that is very nice that delivers there is East NOrriton Women's Healthcare, Dr. Giuffrida and Dr. Sansone.

I think you'll like them.

Check out The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr. I delivered both of my children there all natural births. Very supportive and nurturing environment. I think the website is birthcenter.org

You should look into midwifery. I have used a midwife for my last birth and my current pregnancy and it is the kind of care you are describing. We get no pressure for an kind of unesesary testing i.e. triple screen. You can look on the website for your hospital and see if they have midwives on staff. There is such a great misconception that if you have a midwife for you prenatal care you will be giving birth in you living room with no pain meds. That could not be farther from the truth. They respect and understand that birth is a totally natural thing and every woman deals differently. I had an awesome experience with my last birth and am looking forward to a similar experience this time too. By the way I had my son in a hospital with an epidural and the midwife attending. I even got to pull my baby out of me!

Midwives Yeah!!!

I delivered my second son at phoenixville with the valley forget ob/gyn practice. Loved all the docs - they were great! I've heard Dr. Kolter (mentioned by another woman) is great too. Can't comment on the religious piece....I, too am against abortions and I am catholic...but the discussion never came up during my visits. I never saw abortions advertised or discussed, if that helps.

Good luck!

I go to Great Valley OB/GYN. They are a practice of four women doctors and when I originally started going to the practice five years ago I was told that none of the doctors have done abortions. They have offices in Exton and Paoli and deliver at Paoli Memorial Hospital. I had my first two natural with them and my third with an epidural. They were supportive of my choices and they are very good doctors.

Hello,

I also used Dr. Kolter in Collegeville. I have seen all of the docs in that practice and liked them, but Dr. Kolter delivered 2 ofmy 3 children. I delivered at Paoli and was quite pleased.

Good luck!

I go to Dr. Joseph Castelli. He has an office in bryn mawr and king of prussia. He is a wonderful ob...my sister and best friend have recently used him and were thrilled! He never talked inductions and is actually not a big pain medicine kind of man.
