Who Is the Ob/gyn in Philly?!

Hi there!
I'm brand new to Philly - just moved to Chestnut Hill from Washington, DC. I have a 7 month old and just found out that - eek! - I'm pregnant again!

Who is the best ob/gyn in the area? I have no idea who to see or where to deliver! I'd love to find a place close to me, but I'm willing to travel to find the BEST.OB/GYN.EVER.

Ideally, I'd only have appointments with him/her and he/she'd deliver most of their patients' babies themselves. But I know that's hard to find.

I've heard to avoid Chestnut Hill Hospital...

Any help would be FANTASTIC!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

***UPDATE TO MY UPDATE*** I wholeheartedly recommend AGAINST seeing Dr. Scott Bailey or the other doctor in his practice, Dr. Monzo. It turned out that the pregnancy was not viable and they each gave me UNSOUND medical advice as far as how to proceed. My doctor from DC, who is on the Virginia Board of Medicine, my mother-in-law's doctor in Orlando (my father-in-law is a doctor, so she sees the best in Orlando), my best friend's ob/gyn, and the perinatalogist we saw at Lankenau all VEHEMENTLY DISAGREED with the advice that Bailey and Monzo gave separately. In fact, all 4 "second opinions" were horrified by their judgment and recommended that I drive back to DC for care. My doctor in DC instructed me to take my chances and go to an ER if something happened to me before I could get to her, rather that go back to Bailey and Monzo.

Thank you all so much for all of the ideas here and in private messages! Here's what I did:

I called Dr. Lauren Plante in Center City - but she only does high-risk, so they wouldn't take me!
I tried Dr. Ufberg, but apparently he was sort of far away.
I ultimately decided, based on the majority of the emails, that I should use Lankenau Hospital, which ruled out the ones at Abington & Holy Redeemer. I'm sure they are awesome, but, for some reason, it just seems like Lankenau was the overwhelming winner.
So I wound up making an appointment with Dr. Scott Bailey, who is in Wynnewood. Not exactly in Chestnut Hill, but whatever! He has one other doctor, a woman, who works at his practice and the receptionist told me that he deliver the vast majority of his own patients - so that's a HUGE plus!
I hope this is the right guy! I've never been to a male ob/gyn before! Yikes!
Seriously - THANK YOU for your input - you gave me all of the info I needed!

Hi S. m.

I am in the northeast Philly area, the best ob/gyn would be Dr. Joel kramer, he is associated with Holy redember Hospital. He is so sweet, I have 5 boys, he delivered, he is always there for you no matter what, here is is number check him out ###-###-####

CHH closed it LDR last November sadly. I would recommend talking to a midwife if you are pregnant and looking for someone who will give you the comfort you are looking for when you are pregnant. I've delivered both my baby boys through a midwife and couldn't be happier.

Midwifery Traditions & Associates\, P.C. ###-###-####

You will know both midwifes and they are affiliated with Montgomery County Hospital in Norristown. About 10miles from CHH.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Congratulations and welcome to the neighborhood.

Chestnut Hill doesn't have OB services anymore, so that's not a choice. Abington Memorial Hospital is a good choice. 2 good groups are Abington Primar Women and Abington OB Gyn Associates. You can also go into the city, but I don't know anyone there. I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.

Hi S.

HOLY REDEEMER HOSPITAL...that is where I delivered last July and it was wonderful. Dr. Emami or Dr. Ntoso...GREAT DOCTORS!!! :) Good luck

Joel Kramer is the best OB/GYN! He is very well known and very popular. He has offices in Huntingdon Valley as well as Philadelphia. He is affiliated with Holy Redeemer Hospital. I had a wonderful experience giving birth there.

Congratulations!
I love Dr David Ufberg - he is about to deliver my second child in the next few weeks. He just switched from Pennsylvania Hospital (downtown) to Lankenau (on the Main Line/suburbs, not too far).

I had a good experience at Pennsylvania Hospital two years ago, but they have started to get really busy and things aren't the same. They now use a laborist model, which means you don't get your dr or even one in his/her practice, you just get the doctor assigned to the maternity ward the day you go into labor. That doesn't seem like what you are looking for.

Dr Ufberg left Pennsy because of that - he said he delivers about 90% of his patients and wants to keep it that way. He is the only doctor at his new practice.

Good luck choosing!

All of the doctors in the area make sure they (or their spouses) deliver at Pennsylvania Hospital. I have delivered 2 babies there and they are ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! The hospital is part of the UPENN system but is in center city. It is mainly a maternity hospital with its own NICU (which is also equally AMAZING-having needed their services) whereas many other hospitals are not as equipped in that regard. It is also only about 20 minutes from Chestnut Hill. Many practices use the hospital and have their own "followers". I love Penn OB/Gyn and Midwifery but I have friends who use Women's First also. Good Luck!

I'll tell you that you have to avoid chestnut hill hospital b/c they no longer have a maternity ward! I live in chestnut hill and went to abington hospital and was very happy with it. I went to the Abington Women's Primary Group. It's a large practice but I like 95% of the drs. in it. My neighbor is going there right now and is also happy with them. They have offices in abington, willow grove, blue bell, and flourtown which is sooo close.
Here's their info:
