My husband and I are looking for a puppy. I know it is Christmas time, so a lot of people are looking for a new pet which is why we are having trouble. Everything that I have found is very expensive, and this will be my 2 year old son's first puppy, so we are trying to locate a free puppy or at least one that won't break the bank.

The best advice I can give you is to adopt a puppy. Check the local Petsmart, McKinney, Frisco, Plano. They all have adopt-a-pet events on certain weekends or you can call the animal reescue group itself. I used to work with the Frisco Humane Scoiety and we would have lots of great cats, dogs, kittens and puppys come through, some pure breeds as well. They can also steer you in the right direction if you go to an event. The fee is not too high and they are all orphans that need homes. The fee goes to whatever animal rescue group is sponsering the event for caring for the animals. I hope you can find a good dog. Check the McKinney ASPCA on FM720 as well. Good Luck,

N., Try calling your local animal shelters or even local vets. You are better off getting a mixed breed of some sort. Mixed usually have fewer health problems and live longer. You can also go online to animal rescue and look for certain breeds that need adopting.

I know someone who is trying to find a home for an abandoned golden retriever. He's young (less than a year old) put not a "puppy". He's had his shots and is staying with someone who already has 4 dogs - so she needs to find a home for him. He is VERY sweet. I have pictures I can send you if you are interested
We found our puppy in the ad pages of the newspaper paper. We live in Allen but drove to Rockwall. She's worth it.
Try it out. You may also try the vets office, the city shelter, or the rescue center. Go on line. You can sometimes see pictures.
Go to www.petfinder.com to view pets available for adoption. You can enter your criteria and the site will perform a search and provide pictures, details, etc. Good luck to you!
