Hello there. We have always been with Dr. Dattel (who is mentioned on this site every once in a while) for our son, but his practice is really flooded and we never seem to get to see him - only RNs with whom we have spotty results. I would like to switch over to a pediatrician somewhere near the Bonner Springs/Shawnee Kansas area. Is anyone seeing a ped in this area that they just love? The most important things to me are to be seen when we need to be (not waiting 2 days for an appointment), a doctor who will really listen to our concerns/needs, and of course someone with a great bedside manner with kiddos. Any advice or recommendations you have would be great....Thanks!!!!!

What can I do next?

Hello! We currently see Dr. David Yu at Heartland Primary Care at 110th and Parallel in KCK. His philosophy is to always fit you in and he is always available when you need him. We like that he really listens to our questions and needs and that he doesn't always follow the mainstream. He is open and willing to try new things and some homeopathic treatments. He doesn't just throw an antibiotic at you and call it a day. We love him. The only drawback to seeing Dr. Yu is that since he fits everyone in, sometimes you have to wait a bit in the waiting area to see him if you don't want to see one of the other available Dr's, but it has always been worth it. Let me know if you need any more information:)

I take my girls to Dr.Winburn ( www.jocopeds.com ) !!! I love her she is awesome. I am a very anal mom when it comes to certain issues and she listens to me and we work out the issues together and come to an undertanding !!! She does have alot of patients, but there are a couple other doctors I like too .... Dr. White and Dr. Rawson !!! I have never had a problem with getting in that day if I needed to, and when you call they will tell you if Dr. Winburn is available if she is not they tell you who is and ask who you prefer to see. If you decide to go with her I will recommend making well check ups a few months in advance because like I said she has a lot of patients ... well worth it though !!! Good Luck !

I live out around the Bonner Springs area too and I take my son to Dr. Decker at Johnson County Peds. They are right by Shanwee Mission Medical Center. I love him and would not trade him for the world. I have always been able to get in the same day if I need to and they are willing to work around my schedule. They have Saturday walk in clinic if you need it and they also have a walk in clinic during the week too if need to use it. Everyone is so nice and I love them. They really listen to me and they make my son feel comfortable. I would highly recommend them. Also I know what you mean about Dr. Dattle's office we use to go there too.

I also take my children to Dr. Yu. He says "hi" to my children, by name, before he says "hi" to me; when you are in the exam room with him, your children are his only patients. I was there today - my whole stay was about an hour or so. The sick-waiting room was packed, but the waiting rooms are nice so it wasn't too bad. I opted to see the nurse practitioner today so I could get in earlier in the day, but I was a last minute call in. The other people in the waiting room were also going to Dr. Yu and the nurse practitioner. My best friend take her children there also, but sees Dr. Jay-ram (not sure if that's how it's spelled). Dr. Jay was her pediatrician and now she takes her four children to him also - and loves him. Dr. Yu and Dr. Jay seem to have the same "you're the only patient" philosophy. Good luck.
