I have a 3 1/2 year old that would love to take a dance class. I have NO idea if there is anything out there for her age or that would be offering classes anytime this spring or summer. We live in S. Minneapolis. Any suggestions would be great!

Try the Mpls Parks and Rec system. They have some dance classes for 3-4 year olds. You can find them online at the Parks and Rec site, then look under Activities and Programs.

Hi there, not sure if you are still looking for dance classes, but wanted to let you know of a new center opening in Apple Valley, approx. 10 mn. from the Mall of America. It is located on 42 and Cedar, right next to Ramalynn Montessori.

They offer dance, music, voice, acting, improv and even themed birthday parties! They have open houses coming up August 15,16,21,23 from 3-7 pm.

Instructors are dedicated, caring individuals who teach in a non competitive environment. Check them out, you will be happy you did!

River Valley Dance Academy (Chaska)
Dance Exchange (Eden Prairie)
Good luck,

Hi! I work in south Minneapolis and I don't know of any dance classes there however, we live in St. Louis Park and they do have community ed dance classes for kids ages 2-3, 3-4, and 4-5. They are inexpensive (6 dollars per half hour class). Some start in April, some others in June and some in July. We just signed up for class for my almost 3 year old daughter who loves to dance! You can sign up or find out more at www.slpcommunityed.com
Good Luck!

I am a dancer and I just recently enrolled my 3 year old in ballet classes through MPLS community Ed.

Minneapolis and Saint Paul Community Education classes are not a bad way to go. Their courses are listed on the internet. The prices are reasonable and they are a great starter. Sometimes they offer actual dance classes, however, at 3, most begin with creative movement/music or tumbling classes. Some children are more ready than others and this way there is no long term commitment if they are not quite ready yet.
Some feel this age is to early, however if she ends up really enjoying it and staying with it, most professional dancers did start at about 3. I figure it doesn't hurt. I do wish however that I took gymnastics at some point. The most flexible dancers did some form of gymnastics and maintained their flexibility for the remainder of their lives without any effort... Hope this helps
