Leaky Diapers at Night

We have recently started having a problem with our 10 month old's diapers leaking at night. They seem to be leaking because they are so full. We tried moving up to the next diaper size just for night time and this helps a little. Now instead of every night leaking, it is more like 3-4 times per week. My husband and I are thinking that we should cut back the amount of ounces in the night time bottle from 7oz to 4 oz and see if this helps. We know that we are going to need to start phasing out bottles are nap and bedtimes (and all together) soon after a year anyway -- my concern is I don't want to cut out important nutrients from the formula too early.

Currently our son eats 3 good meals a day and drinks 3 7oz bottles of formula (typically before naps and bedtime). We are planning on switching off the formula and to milk asap after our son turns one. He is so close now, do you think it is o.k. to drop the amount of formula he is getting at night? He isn't small, but his weight is only in the 50% (height is in 90%). I just want to make sure he is getting enough. Also, I don't want to add the extra formula in during the day, because we give him water with meals and I think it is important for him to continue to get the H2O.

Thanks for your thoughts!

So What Happened?

We've tried the Huggies Overnights (we were already Huggie loyal) and they seem to be doing the trick.

Thanks!

Go up a size at night for his diapers. That's what we did & it worked.

Hello,

My son who is now 6 had that same problem at night. We didn't want to cut the amount that we gave him for the night time bottle so we doubled up on the diaper at night. It worked really well. We would cut a small slit in the diaper closest to the body. You go thru more diapers but it kept his sheets clean. I hope this helps and good luck.

I actually had to start using overnight diapers with my first daughter because I could not stop her from leaking. Huggies makes them. They are a bit more expensive but if you only use them at night and long car trips it is totally worth it! Funny my next two never had a problem with it and drank the same amounts. Good luck, changing sheets daily gets to be a real pain!

We started having this problem when our son was about 10 mos. also--turned out to be the diaper brand we were using (Target, size 3).

Switched to White Cloud (size 3 also) and have had no problems since!
