Leaking Diapers - Dallas,TX

My 21 month old's diapers keep leaking during the night. She wakes up in the morning soaking wet. I have tried going up 1 size at night in both Huggies and Pampers but it is not working. I don't think I can go up another size because she is teeny and the next size gapes at the legs. Any other nighttime diaper ideas??

When my daughter was much younger - 2 or 3 months her diaper would leak. We tried going up a size, down a size and many diff brands. Finally what worked for us was double diapering for a while. We diapered her with a a larger size diaper and that seemed to work. Then it stopped. Then we stopped double diapering. I know that I also looked into diaper inserts that helped with that as well. We never had to that b/c she stopped after a couple of weeks. Which I was happy about b/c it was expensive!!!

Hi, my thoughts are that she is either peeing a lot durning the night sleep, or maybe she isn't freshly changed before she goes to sleep. Maybe you could try a Pull up, for bedtime. I think there is one for over night.
Then during the day , start training her to sit on the POTTY CHAIR.maybe place one in the bathroom, and let her see it, then show her what it's for.Let her watch you go potty on the big potty and her on the smaller one. When my children could walk around on their on or do their little hurry run, I would start to ask if they wanted to go to potty. The earlier you introduce them to it the better. That way you aren't worried about why a 3-4 yr. old child is still having accidents. I'm a grandmother , so maybe my ideas are old school to the younger moms, but my children seem alright and have their own children, all are potty trained. LOL (my daughter is 42 :-D ) Good luck ,

My son wakes up wet a lot too - I just discovered "Diaper Doublers" at Babies R Us - they look almost like a maxi pad - and you just put them in the diaper and it makes it more absorbent. They work great!

My kids also had very overfull diapers in the morning even though i restricted what they drank before bed. "Diaper Doublers" worked for us. Albertson's sold them under a more generic name in a blue package. Kroger had them in a yellow package. They are in the diaper aisle, usually top shelf. What it is is basically a maxi pad without the plastic backing that you place inside the diaper and it provided just enough "extra" absorption to stop the leaks. I have used regular maxi pads in a pinch, but the plastic on the back just isn't good for the skin. It's been a while since we've been in diapers, I hope you are able to find them because they saved me A LOT of laundry!

Huggies Overnites! My son was/still is a champ when it comes to peeing (sorry if that's TMI) and the Overnites were my saving grace. I usually had the best luck finding them at my local Wal-Mart all the time, Target would be hit or miss.

My son had trouble with this and the overnight diapers didn't come in his size. He wore a size 6 and the overnight diapers only came in 3,4 and 5 sizes. I went on line and looked up diaper doublers (because at the time I couldn't find them at the stores)and found www.diapersite.com . They had the doublers and an overnight diaper that was called "all thru the night" diapers. They came in larger sizes and I bought some for Nolan. They worked great but didn't have velcro tabs, just sticky tabs that could be adjusted once. I had to buy a case (120 in 10 piece packages) and we didn't use them all. We have 6 packages left, so if you'd like to try these, I'd be glad to sell you some. Hope you figure it all out!

I use Pampers cruisers. My daughter wears size 6 because she is long wasted. Don't go by the size/weight on the box. I have never had a leak at night. In fact I was just thinking that this morning when I changed what I call a "totally got my moneys worth out of that one" diaper. I swear it weighed more than her.

It might work if you go up a size and use a waterproof cover like people use over cloth diapers. Then it would fix the gaping at the leg problem. I could let you borrow one to see if it works before you buy one. I'm kind of curious myself. It's a velcro type cover...not pull-on pants.

babies'r'us sells inserts for diapers. it looks like a maxi pad, but it just slips into the diaper between the legs. it makes a regular diaper into a double without the bulk of two diapers. and they are pretty cheap! good luck!

Use 2 diapers at night. My Son has the same problem. My Mother-In-Law calls it Double Diapering and told us about it. I also change our Sons' Diaper around 11 p.m. before I go to bed and that helps so much. If I forget to change his diaper at 11 p.m. then sometimes his pants/jammies are wet even with 2 diapers. Mostly at the top of his pants.

We've never done the overnight ones, cause the double diapering has worked as long as I change his diaper before I go to bed. It will be less expensive also than buying the overnight diapers.

You didn't mention night time diapers, I was thinking they made them. If you haven't tried them, search the different brands to see if they have them. they also have pads you can put on the beds, although of course this doesn't help her, but at least would keep the bedding dry.

R., I don't really think that you need to go up a size, I'm thinking that maybe closer to be you should have your daughter drink less liquid and have her go potty before she goes to bed since if she drinks less and has already gone potty then she will have less to pee in the middle of the night. Hope this all works out well for you guys and good luck. I have read all your responses and I have to agree with the grandma, and I'm only 29 yrs old, the sooner you get them potty trained the better since you then don't have to worry about all the expensive diapers. I unfortunateely work full time or my 10 1/2 mo old would already be in progress of potty training. Good luck again. Oh and when you look for a potty chair don't get on that makes the flushing noise unless your daughter is inamered by the big toilet flushing since they say that can scare the child from wanting to use the potty.

good luck!

We had the same problem at a much earlier age. I dont use huggies because they have always leaked on us.

We used Pampers Cruisers which worked GREAT!!! They are higher padding in the back and absorbe a large amount of fluid.

She is a large baby so she now uses Night Times pull ups since she out grew the cruisers.

Try using night time diapers. I know Huggies makes them, and there are probably others as well. They are supposed to hold more. I know I used them with my older 2 when they were little. They are a bit more expensive, so I only used them at night. Regular diapers during the day.

She may be getting cold. the only time my son has leaky diapers at night is when he gets cold. He won't keep his blanket on all the way... so I put his onesie, socks and a sleeper on at night and he keeps warm. So no leaky diapers in the morning.

Are you using the Huggies "Overnites" diapers? I couldn't really tell from your question. If not, give those a try and limit her fluids to a little less than she's getting now right before bed. Sometimes my son's "overnite" diapers still leak but they're definitely better than the regular diapers.

answers from Dallas on

have you tried the huggies nighttime diapers? Try putting a pad under her before she sleeps, maybe getting up in the middle of the night to check her pamper and changing it without waking her will help. My daughter is 10 months and I have been doing that for her so she doesn't wake up in the middle of the night crying from a wet diaper. (Granted I don't have the leaking problem you have, but well it helps). If I don't change her diaper, itt disrupts her sleep and it takes time to put her back to sleep! I have mastered changing her diaper backwards so as to not wake her! I notice she sleeps longer through the night when I do this. So maybe trying that will help. Good luck!

P.S. I use Huggies and they are the best diapers around! Huggies supreme, huggies snug and dry, etc. They cost a little more, but if you call them they will send you coupons if you ask... it's worth it! Saved us money!
