Seeking Advice on Night Time Diapers

Does anyone know of a super-absorbant diaper for overnight use? My son wakes up drenched each morning and I'm wondering if there isn't anything on the market that would be better for him at night than regular diapers.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

Well, we purchased Huggies Overnites in the size larger than Drew normally wears and used one for the first time last night. It worked! We'll continue along this path and hope it is the solution. Right now he is drinking a bottle before bedtime, so I know he has a pretty full bladder over night. Thank you all for your advice!

I have a heavy wetter, too! The only thing that gets us through the night is a bumgenius with the regular cottonbabies insert and TWO (count 'em, two) hemp inserts.

You're clearly not a cloth diapering mom at the moment, but may I say, unsolicited, that, especially since you'll have another baby soon, that getting some one-size dipes would totally save you a ton of money in the long run. I shudder to think how much money we'd have literally thrown out in the diaper pail if we hadn't switched when I was pregnant.

The plastic ones at walmart aren't near as good, but that's not a bad idea for the short run.

I had this same problem with both of my boys. I found a product that only Publix carries. They are called Diaper Doublers and they cost between $2 and $3. They are basically a pad without any adhesive that fit inside the baby's diaper. This worked beautifully for both my boys.

Hope this helps,
C. Daniel

Hi T.,
I had the same problem with my son. I buy one size diaper up for night and then put a plastic diaper over it. I don't know what the plastic diapers are really called - I think they are meant to go over cloth diapers. My husband has dubbed them "stink wrappers". That has taken care of the problem. He gets a clean stink wrapper every night and then I just wash them in the washing machine when I do laundry. I think I got a set of 6 at walmart for about $5. The ones I have are made by Gerber. I liked that idea rather than buying the expensive overnight diapers. It has worked great.

I know you decided on Huggies, but if they let you down, go to Pampers cruisers.
Please be sure that he is only drinking water before bed and if it is milk, make sure you clean his gums and teeth
(s) before he falls asleep. This pattern can promote tooth decay, even on ones that are not there yet.

Good Luck and God Bless.

Our daughter uses Pampers Cruisers and although they are full, she never leaks. He may pee more than normal, do you change him last thing before you put him down? Try to do that. Also, they do have nighttime diapers, see if they have them for his size. Lastly, point his "thingy" down, if it is pointing up, it will shoot out the top. :o)

I use Huggies Overnites with my little girl. They seem to hold more fluid than the regular diapers, so she doesn't wake up soaked anymore. I hope you find one that works for you :-)

Huggies Overnite!!! If you use reg. disp. diapers don't put any plastic diaper covers over them. It not only keeps the moisture in, but heat. This increases the chance of severe diaper rashes.

Hi, what worked best for me was those plastic washables diapers,(you don't shoot them out) you put a liner in them and even if the liner doesn't hold it all it stays in the plastic part, its very uncomfortable for the child which encourages them to wake up and go to the toilette. I also bought a really good plastic bed cover so if it did get through the plastic diaper it wouldn't ruin the matress. Those plastic diapers saved me a lot of laundry....

Good luck

Congratulations on #2!

We have always used pampers with NO problem and then we bought huggies because they were cheaper at Costco. That was a big mistake for us because he soaks through Huggies every time and it caused us to have to get up several nights in the middle of the night and change him and his sheets, too! We still are using the Huggies during the day until they are gone but have moved back to Pampers for nighttime because they work so much better (for us, at least). We put our 5 month old down at 6:30 last night and I fed him in his sleep at 10pm and when he got up at 7am he still had the same diaper on. It did not leak although it was pretty heavy by the time it was changed this morning.

Good Luck!

I just saw in Wal-Mart this past week that Huggies makes an overnight diaper. I haven't bought them yet but I intend to for my 19 month old who also wakes up soaking wet every morning. So much so that sometimes even his pj's are wet. Congratulations on baby #2! Our second was born 3/28/08. Rest up! You'll need it!

hi T.,
i had the same problem with my little girl. i was and still am an avid fan of pampers cruisers-- however, we discovered huggies overnights for nighttime and still use them! when she was little, i hated huggies because she leaked so bad with them. but once she started soaking her jammies and bed on an almost daily basis, we switched and have had only one small leak (right around her waistband, because she sleeps on her belly with her tush up in the air), and we've been using them for at least 6-8 months now. hope that helps!

Hi T.,

I know exactly what you are going through!! My son was the same way and what works for us is Huggies Overnights. I get them at Walmart and they are not overly expensive. I think they are well worth it. I'm not having to wash cloths every other day. Hope it works for you.

Get up in the middle of the night and change him. Even super-absorbent diapers don't fix every problem.

Huggies overnights worked for us too. It also helped to go up a size for nighttime. There is also a product called "diaper doublers" on the market. I have found them at Food Lion and they are a bit like giant maxi pads and work great too. Hope this helps.

Hi T.

The best advice I can give you is to limit his liquid intake before bed. If he is potty trained have him use the potty before he goes to sleep.

Good Luck!

T.,
I use Huggies Nite Time Diapers. I have been pleased with them. No leaks and they last all night. I try to cut out his liquids at least an hour before bedtime. That seems to help on him not being soaked in the morning.

Good luck.

We have the same issue. The only thing that I have found to work well are Huggies Overnites. I usually can only find them at Babies R Us or Toys R Us. I have happened upon them once at Walgreen's and once at Kroger. One time I even ordered from diapers.com. Apparently, they aren't stocked particularly well. Good luck!

I'm not too big on the night time diapers. My son is about 18 months old and when he wakes up he is soaked too, and there were times when it leaked and he would even be drenched when he woke up. What I did, is switched him to a bigger size diaper at night time so there is more room for the pee to go, and its not as bad. That has seemed to work for us. I know the night time diapers itself are more expensive. This way you know you will eventually use the bigger diapers so you're not wasting your money.

How much is he drinking before bed? At 10 months you could give him more table food at dinner and less formula/breastfeeding. Breastfeed or formula more during the day. See if that helps.

I use Pampers Cruisers and rarely have leaks/blowouts!

My 14 month old started having that problem when she was that age too. What worked for us was using bigger diapers at night. We found that the Pampers Cruisers are slightly bigger than the Pampers Baby Dry for some reason, so if she was in a size 4 baby dry during the day, we would use a cruiser at night. When she grew out of the size 4 baby dry during the day, we went to cruisers during the day and size 5 baby dry at night. Sounds wierd but it was the only thing that worked for her. Also, we found that using a onesie at night as opposed to a non-snapping shirt keeps the diaper in place better.

my son is in cloth diapers, and i have to say, that a good pre-fold cloth diaper, and a hemp doubler, all covered with a bummies whisper wrap, is ten times more absorbent than any disposable diaper i have tried. my daughter was in disposable diapers, and so was my son for a year. i would never use a disposable diaper again. give cloth a try.
