I just saw a commercial today on Nickelodeon that says that Lady Gaga and Beyonce are both nominated for Best Female Singers. I for one am appalled considering the extreme sexual content in the videos those two have produced together.

Am I over-reacting?

What can I do next?

You are not over-reacting at all. Shows for kids should be age appropriate based on their content and Lady Gaga and Beyonce's content is NOT appropriate for children.

I get so tired of seeing women half dressed (at best) dancing on these music videos. Why can they not stand on their own accord and talent.. must they flash all of their stuff everywhere.. I am not a prude.. I have nothing against the naked body and do not care if my children would happen to see a naked body (of course depending on what that naked body was doing) I think it's sending a very bad message to young girls of what behavior is acceptable. I am totally with you and wish there was something we could do.. send a message out there to these people.

No! You are not overreacting. We are far too lax with our kids and wonder why they are acting how they do as teenagers. Stick to your guns, you only have one chance to raise your kids. Do it the best you know how and don't let society dictate what you know is right.

Good luck!

I dont think its a huge deal. They are basing it on the song not the video. No one freaked out when Jim Carrey or Mike Meyers was on the show. They arent exactly "kid" friendly.I think there is nothing wrong with listening to the songs BUT i do think that the videos are to racey for kids eyes. But every parent is entitled to their own opinion and you have to do what you think/feel is best for your child :)

When I first saw Lady Gaga I thought, totally adult content. However, my daughter has a few of her songs on her MP3 player and I was really surprised when she told me who the singer is. That said, I would never let them see the videos. As another poster said, the awards are pretty much based on the songs, not the videos. My kids have seen the outrageous photos but not any videos.

Nope! I won't let my daughter watch any of that stuff, or the awards show! It personally sickens me how sexual the media is when it comes to kids. You are not alone!

Nope you are not over-reacting, I barely listen to Lady Gaga & Beyonce because they make we feel dirty & grossed out sometimes. If asked to watch it I would just say no we do not watch that in our house.

I agree with you! While we are on the subject, why are people like Sarah Silverman and Anthony Bourdain on Yo Gabba Gabba? They are totally adult content personalities........and yet they are guest starring on a kids show?

Nope you're not over-reacting. Teen choice, I get. Kids choice? No way! My son isn't allowed to watch, because he likes to emulate all the guys. YUCK!!!

I'm with you. I am astounded everyday in regard to how much sexual content is flung around...everywhere.
Now, I AM a woman... and I DO have a sexual side to me...I just don't feel the need to share it with anyone except my hubby! I can't seem to wrap my mind around why our society is so adamant about having this barrage of crud....especially Nickelodeon...they should know better. I wish there was something we could do.
I find myself IN A RAGE (internally) sometimes about this issue. These people (media) have obviously never had to deal with children that have been sexually abused...or they would be enraged, as well. I probably DO over-react. Someone needs to stand up and protect the children's innocence.
