Kindle Ipad or Other

I don't think there is one device that does all that well. A straight up Kindle is the best reader out there but it does little else. The Kindle fire will give you everything you need but the reader. It holds the books but you can't read it in direct sunlight any better than a computer.

I think the Kindle fire 4g isn't as expensive monthly as the iPad and I know it is a lot cheaper.

Really you need to sit down and figure out exactly what you need to have and go from there.

None of them will connect to the internet without wifi except the models that have broadband and the expense that comes with that.

they all are WIFI enabled as in you can pick up local wifi at public places and use free. the more expensive ones are 3g which enable you to be able to pay for a wireless plan on if you want.

the ipad is 400-600 and the kindle and google nexus are 199. You can use the kindle or nexus for what you want

i agree with Jo about the reader thing as well. if thats your main purpose maybe a nook but than you lose all of the rest. i heard the nexus might be anti glare

The Kindle is cheaper on the get go because you really can't get an iPad for less than $300 if you are lucky. Having said that, I own an iPad and I love it. Because we own multiple Apple products, I love that once you buy for one, you never buy again. I put my documents, mail , calendar, photos, movies and most of it syncs to my computer. You can buy a model with service and service is per month basis, no contract and for us it is about $30. We buy it only when we go out of road trip months. BUT, the wireless models are more expensive. It does pretty much everything besides intense applications like Excel graphing and hard core Photoshop (just basic stuff). It plays Netflix and if you do go WiFi, just remember that most places have hotspots.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with WiFi (but not 4G) is $299.
3rd Gen iPad with WiFi (but not 4G) starts at $499 (2nd Gen iPad for $399).
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with WiFi and 4G is $499.
The third generation iPad with WiFi and 4G is starts at $629.

The Kindle is going to be cheaper by far to start and if you never buy anything else and don't plan on buying many apps, it's the economical way to go. If you are an Amazon user, by all means get the Kindle. If you want to read, both carry Kindle. You can use Amazon on the iPad, by the way. I just think iPad is more versatile but that's just me with out many iPhones, iPods and iPads.

I just answered Just M's question about Nooks but it sounds like you need an iPad. The Kindle and Nook don't function like a business computer and if you need to work on alot of general business applications like MS Word, Excel, PeachTree, powerpoint, then you need an iPad. My Nook does have business application downloads but they aren't suitable for me to conduct the kind of business I need to have. But if you want to hold pictures and even take pictures and edit them, then the iPad should do it for you. You also get alot more variety when it comes to apps with the iPad, however, I chose the Nook bc I needed something to read, not play games on. So I went with what my priorities are.

Some people prefer the Kindle only bc you get the ink screen when you read books. The Nook doesn't have the ink screen (where the page you read looks like a page printed in actual ink) but I got over that pretty quick.

My Nook is 16Gs, is pretty fast and can generally do the same thing as the Kindle. I went with the Nook because I can take it to any Barnes and Noble if anything goes wrong with it and can have an actual person take a look at it, instead of calling someone on the phone at Amazon with a Kindle. That was my dealbreaker.

The Kindle is smaller and easier to throw in your purse and reading books.

iPad is larger screen and better for pictures, surfing the web, etc. Also, they now have keyboards for them so its truly a full computer.
