Kind of an Embarrasing Question...

Is anyone sad about One Life to Live and All my Children being cancelled?

Here's the thing... I've watched them off and on through my life since I was 14 years old, over 30 years. I've enjoyed watching with my children and even my husband. But we have gone whole years without watching. I've just gone 6 months without watching because I wanted to put more time into my relationship with the Lord and spend more time on school work with my daycare kids and my daughter.

The day that DVR's became available and I could tape and watch after the kids went to bed was a happy day for me. It was nice knowing they were there even when I don't want to put a lot of time into them. I know lots of people feel it's a terrible unChristian thing to do. But seriously, the bible is full of some pretty sorted stories! I never felt that it changed my thinking or made me want to do bad things. I never cheated on my husband or sat around thinking about love affairs because I liked my stories.

I haven't even watched All My Children in over 10 years. But I'm still sad to not know it's there. It feels a lot like losing a loved one or an old friend.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It's not that there isn't plenty of things to do. I don't watch much tv and that's the main reason I've watched in fits and spurts. But the very idea of them not being there, like an old friend to visit is what's making me sad. What about the fact that they are replacing these shows with reality tv talk shows? Those things are like cancer. They are evil and spread like wild-fire. I really hate reality tv.

Oh my gosh, my husband thinks it's so retarded that I still miss Guiding Light! But it's not just the shows and the characters I miss. My Granny watched it from day one, then my mother, and then me. I had been watching some of those same characters since I was six years old! I was very sad to see it go, and I still miss it.

I used to watch them with my caretaker when I was younger, they kind of remind me of her (I was with her from 3mo to 11yrs old) sometimes when I am thinking of her I turn one on just for memories sake. It does sadden me to think that will not be thereas a memory thing but I luckily have a few family jewlery items she has given me thru the years including one she gave me when I was preg with my son (she was given one like it when she was preggers with her first).

I heard this being discussed on TV aftr the announcements, and the Dr (psychologist ) said it's normal to be sad because during the times in our lives when we did watch these shows, we associated that actual period in our lives with the shows, so we are mourning the loss of what feels like loosing a part of our lives. Hopefully whatever they replace these shows with will be worth watching,......

I feel your pain!! I don't watch those soaps, I watch CBS, but When As The World Turns ended this past September, I cried like I lost my best friend! My husband laughs at me, I go crazy with spoilers for all my soap... After I got over it, I found I have an extra hour to my day! Sorry for your loss....

Good Luck with your search for something new to watch!

Why is watching soap operas unChristian??? Most of the actors/actresses in soap operas are Christian!! I don't read the Bible, but where does it state that you are not allowed to watch soap operas??? Does the Bible imply that people who watch soap operas will be influenced to have affairs themselves b/c that is what they see on soap operas? These people are adults, not impressionable children, and they will absolutely will NOT have affairs just because actors on their soap operas are! People who choose to have affairs will have affairs whether or not they watch soap operas!

I watched AMC years and years ago. About a couple times a year, I will watch it just to see what's going on. My favorite soap is the Bold and the Beautiful, and I would also feel like I lost a loved one or an old friend if it got cancelled, so I know how you feel. By the way, if anyone watches the Bold and the Beautiful, will you please send me a message because I would love to discuss it with you!!

Don't feel embarassed, and definately don't feel unChristian - that is crazy.

I'm very sad!! I haven't watched OLTL in years, but I still read stuff about it. I will be tuning back in when Roger Howarth returns. I loved him.

I've watched GH since I was 18, so that's over 18 years!!! Thankfully it's still on......for now.

It's sad to think we are losing a great genre.

I always thought it great that you could skip months of it and when you watch it again really it is like picking up where you left off. lol

I remember one called Santa Barbara or something like that. It came on when I was in High School it was on when I could come home after school. So that is what I watched while eating my snack while getting ready to do homework.

I have never watched soaps.
Well, that's a lie because I remember when I was a little child Days of our Lives was on. Like sands through the hourglass.
I was playing next door with a neighbor's baby and overheard something about making love. I asked the mom what it meant. She said "Ask your mother".
So...I did. In front of the ice cream man and my mom wasn't happy.

Anyway, I just never got into soaps and was intrigued to see that even before the news of the cancellations broke, there was something in a magazine about Luke and Laura and that was over 30 years ago.

I can't say I'm sad to see these shows end. Never really watched them. Although I did think my sister needed professional help when she was glued to a story line about demonic possession or something.
I guess some people will have to find daytime drama in other ways. Not that the world is lacking for that.

Best wishes.

Get a hobby! Im not being a smart @ss either. I used to go to the gym everynight when I put the kids to bed, now that Im pregnant and can barely move, I have been watching a lot of crappy TV! I used to NEVER watch tv, literally weeks would go by and didnt watch a thing. Dont be sad, just go do something that you enjoy and you will forget all about it!
You want to talk about embarrassing, my Thursday nights are pretty boring now that Jersey Shore and Housewives of Beverly Hills is over. Ugh! I cant wait to hit the gym!

TV shows are so much hipper these days, I'm not surprised that the old-fashioned soaps are dying. "Lost" for example, was just a soap opera in disguise. But a very exciting one, shot on a beach in Hawaii. It beat the hell out of AMC. (I did watch AMC for a few months 20 years ago.)
