Key West or Destin, Florida??? (No Longer Headed to Amelia Island)

I have been there a couple of times as a "tag along" when my husband has had a conference there. There are a lot of conferences there because it is a great location.

I made my reservations through www.aipfl.com (Amelia Island Plantation, FL) The hotel is very nice, on the beach. The beach was not crowded when we were there.

As for entertaining customers, etc, we did go off the property to locate some great restaurants. That was because all conference dinners we on property and we wanted to do something a little different.

We flew into Jacksonville, FL and it was less than an hour away.

We've been there many times. We grew up going to Fernindina Beach, which is just a bit further past Amelia Island. Lots of great restraunts, great downtown area with ice cream shop and art galleries, a toy store...and a dock to watch the shrimp boats come in. If you go to Amelia, definiely take a day and go to Fernindina. Have fun!

I practically grew up in Destin. My family went there every summer and rented a cottage on Miramar Beach or Tang-O-Mar Beach. You can rent a nice condo for $1,000 or more per week, or find a cozy cottage on the beach (not too fancy) for just under $1,000 for the week, depending on what time of year you go. There's lots of fun things to do with the kids like going to the Gulfarium. Great shopping at Destin Commons. I don't know about Key West, but the sandy beaches in Destin are white as snow and it is called Sugar Beach. I'm sure if you googled Destin vacations you can find out a lot more about what to do. Word of caution, the strip can get heavily congested during the summer, especially in July.

I went through Destin last year on our way home. We actually went to Panama City and it was wonderful. We stayed in some condos right on the beach. Lots of activities in Panama City and beautiful beaches. We went deep sea fishing with a great crew. We went with another couple and their kids and had a blast..My son wants to go back so bad this summer but don't know if we can swing it or not.
We drove home through Destin, Pensacola and a couple of more beach towns...We loved it..
