I have PCOS and after going through years of infertility treatments had been told that I would never have kids. After I stopped trying, my doctor sent me to an endocrinologist. She diagnosed me as having insulin resistance with my PCOS and put me on glucophage. After a year I was "surprised" with my daughter, who is now 2. Don't give up. I'd talk to an endocrinologist. The one I saw was Dr. Scrumpia, she has an office by north austin medical center.

hi K.
i work a planned parenthood and we advise women to get one of those home ovulating machines, because alot of women don't know when they are ovaulating and that is their problem so they don't know when to try to have a baby.good luck

I have PCOS and am now expecting my first baby! There is hope!!!! I tried some other herbal pill that never worked, which I was upset about because they were expensive! When I went to my doctor he put me on Metformin(sp) which is used for diabetics (did you know because we have PCOS we are more likly to become diabetic in the future?) I got pregnant after being on it a month! But, before I got pregnant my doctor told me we would try metformin for 6 to 8 months and if they didn't work we would need to look into fertility drugs like clomid.(sp) I hope this helps and I hope metformin works for you too. Just go see your doctor and talk to him/her about it.
Keep me posted!:) A.

Hey K.,

I also have pcos and my endocrinologist put me on glucophage when we were trying to get pregnant. Glucophage is a diabetic medicine but they found out that it helped women with pcos to regulate their system. After we were on it for a month we got pregnant and had a son. I guess it really helped because when he was four months old we found out that we were pregnant again. They are 2 and 1 years old now. I don't know if this will help you but you could check with your doctor.

I have heard of those, but Im not sure if they help with PCOS. I also have PCOS and I see the fertility specialist at Darnell. Metformin/ glucophage made me sick as a dog, but Clomid is what works for me. I dont Ovulate with out Clomid, thats just the nature of ( my) beast. I tried Vitex, but My Dr said it wouldnt do any good for my condition. Good luck!

I personally would be very cautious about taking anything over the counter that is supposed to cause a period. If you have PCOS you should really consult your gynecologist. My doctor, Elizabeth Vliet, has several books out about women's health and issues, but one is specifically for PCOS, called The Savvy Woman's Guide to PCOS. She's very up-to-date and a super hormone doctor. She has a website at www.herplace.com
Best wishes.
