We just relocated to Rhode Island from California and I am 26 weeks pregnant with our second child. I want some input on recommendations for doctors. I feel a little lost at this point!

What can I do next?

Hi T.,

I go to a group called Women's Care--I like the Providence branch best. Their number is ###-###-####. They have both midwives and doctors. I received prenatal care for both my boys from Women's Care and I have to say that all of the people that work there are fantastic. They are affiliated with Women & Infants' and I am sure for other hospitals as well. For doctors, I would recommend Dr. Medeiros (woman) or Dr. Clairborne (man). They are both fantastic...Dr. Clairborne is hilarious and very comforting. By the way, I also moved here from California (San Diego & San Francisco) in 2003 and am always looking for new pals, play dates, etc. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old and we often host play groups at our home!

Definatelyl to go BaySide OB-GYN an Plain Street in Providence. Mine there is Kathleen Bowling and she's tops. There are several in the practice that you'll rotate through so that you know them all. I absolutely loved all of them except for one. Several of the people who I work with also have the practice and cannot say enough about them.

Each doc has a couple of nurses assigned to them. They will call you back and take care of you in short order. They have it all undercontrol and will get you exactly what you need, with the appropriate amount of urgency that needs to be applied in the situation.

You always feel like a person that matters...because you do!

Here's there number ###-###-####

Hi T.,

Dr. Kathleen Woodruff at Caring for Women at 166 Tollgate Rd. Warwick, RI ###-###-####. She is the best! My 2nd daughter was born at almost 11 at night and she stayed to delivery her when she should have left at 7pm. She was on call the night before and was leaving for Florida the next day! She is very sweet and takes the time to listen. She never makes you feel like your being a pain or asking too many questions. I have referred many to her. I know you didn't ask for hospital advice. But if you live near the Warwick area even if you don't. I loved Kent Hospital. Everyone was so nice! I delivered my first child at Women & Infants. I had a good labor & delivery nurse. The rest of the visit was somewhat fair. I have had other friends deliver at Kent after W & I and liked it better also. My children are also just over 2 years apart. I have 2 girls one almost 7 1/2 years and the other just turned 5 in Feb.

I also 2nd the Caring for Women practice, but I use Dr. Spurrell! He is awesome as well. I did see the woman Dr. once. I think her last name is Woodruff and she was great as well! I hate doctors overall, but I love the doctors and staff here! They truly have a caring nature, and also they have a practice of whoever follows you generally delivers you, none of that oncall rotation stuff like most of the other practices. Your Dr. has to like be away on vacation or something for someone else to deliver you. Each Dr delivers about 90% of their own patients babies. I also reccomend Kent County for delivery. Women ad Infants feels like a big baby factory. Plus, Kent just redid all of their postpartum rooms! flat screen tvs, hardwood floors, and much more!

Caring for Women!(In Warwick) I agree they are wonderful. I went through both my pregnancies with them. My doctor is Dr. Kathleen Woodruff. She is wonderful, sweet, and just very caring. I recently had an IUD put in and she could see how bad it hurt me and she said I might get light headed. She got me water and I started to feel like I was going to pass out. She stayed with me, made sure I was ok, i threw up and then her nurse brought me gum. They told me to take my time in the room until I felt ready to leave. They were so wonderful. I can't say enough about them. Dr. Colavita delivered my first son because Dr. Woodruff was out of town, and I have also met with the midwife, who is wonderful, as well as Dr. Spurell and one other lady (I can't remember her name.) Everyone oves this practice and the dr.s I can't say enough good things about them!

I have visited California and I can totally understand how Rhode Island is a total culture shock!! Wow. In my opionion I had the world's best OB-GYN for both of my babies. His name is Dr. Mauro Colavita and he works at Caring for Women in Warwick on Tollgate Road. He delivers at Kent and Woman and Infants Hospital but I HIGHLY recommend Kent Memorial Hospital. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire staff at Kent and at Caring for Women. Dr. Colavita is so down to earth and light hearted and relaxed. He takes time with his patients and listens to you concerns and answers your questions no matter how crazy you may think they are. My older sister also delivered both her kids with Dr. Colavita at Kent and would recommend them both again I'm sure. Good Luck!

Where exactly in Rhode Island are you living? The adjustment from sunny California to cold New England is definately hard. I'm involved in a lot of playgroups and activities. Contact me if you are interested...K.

I go to Center for OB/GYN, there are located in Pawtucket close to Blackstone Blvd. I am not sure where in East Providence you live, but they are easy to get to. I see a midwife for my pregnancy, but I know they have four or five other female OB's. Everything is onsite, lab, ultra-sound tech, exam etc. They are affiliated with Women & Infants Hospital, which has an excellent reputation.
