I went through IVF in 2005 and 2008, and the first time, it was painful - I slept the majority of the day. The second time, they gave me valium and I was very relaxed. I ended up with a beautiful little girl from the first session, but no baby the second time. Right now, I wouldn't trade my little angel for anything and I'd do it again to get her.

I did IVF back in 2007. The day of my retreival I was in so much pain the rest of that day and some the following day. I basically laid down as much as I could. Luckily, my IVF attempt was successful the first time and I was blessed with a baby girl 9 months later. Just think positive and try to get as much rest as you can. Good luck to you and your husband.

Just wanted to encourage you that my sister had a baby (my now 6 year old niece) thru IVF in 2003 (she had to go for a procedure during the blizzard of 2003 and my niece is now known as "the blizzard baby" in the fertility center she went to). It's a crazy roller coaster ride, but success can happen. Hang in there! My niece is such an amazing blessing!

i dont know that this will help but i was told for twenty years that i was
sterile, couldnt have babies, didnt even have to worry about it. then, eleven days after i turned forty, i /we discovered i was 11 to 14 weeks pregnant after being rushed to the emergency room because my bladder
wouldnt empty. long story short, four months later, after one aminocentis, three sonagrams, some seriously scary testing, we delivered the baby ourselves two months early in our apartment bathroom (goodbye deposit) two months early. she is now just shy of six pounds and just past 18 inches long. she is healthy and will eat anything that gets close enough to her . ten fingers, ten toes and stawberry blonde hair.
hows that ??

Hi! I know what you're going through. My egg retrieval was painful the first 2 times but the 3rd time around I had a new dr. who gave me a valium beforehand and it was much easier. I did IVF 3 times and it worked on the 3rd time. I have 6 year old twins. I also ended up getting pregnant on my own after that and have a 3 year old. The 2 week wait is the hardest part. I hope it works for you the first time!

I had my son in 98 with IVF. I remember being a bit sore after retrieval but it wasn't too bad. The waiting the 2 weeks after putting the embryos in me was very stressful. I kept going back and forth between being hopeful and thinking it didn't work. When we got the good news we were so happy, but I waited awhile before telling my Mom. I wanted to take everything one step at a time. Hopefully you will have some good news soon. Good luck!

We did IVF just over 3 years ago and had success on our first try. I was uncomfortable after retrieval, but not in pain. I felt very bloated for several days. I was not offered pain meds.
Good luck!

First, the success part- My IVF "baby" will be 8 in April so I can tell you the process can definitely be worth all the hassle :) I was lucky that the first IVF worked, although many friends needed a couple of tries before becoming pregnant.

Relax as much as you can and give your body all the time it needs to heal. I had planned to go back to work the day after my retrieval, but I ended up just staying in bed for 2 days because walking was uncomfortable. You want to be at your healthiest for the transfer so spoil yourself for these few days while you can. This is your excuse to watch chick flicks and eat chocolate!

I hope you'll be asking lots of pregnancy and new baby questions very soon!!

I also had a fair amount of pain; take those pain meds! I then became sick w/ a bad stomach bug w/ fever a couple days after; it was so bad that I was afraid the IVF would not work, but my twins are 2 1/2 now! I was very lucky to get pregnant on my first IVF (after 3 years of infertility and tx w/ clomid and 2 IUIs). I have several friends that didn't get preg until their 2nd or 3rd IVF, so try not to put too much pressure on the first one! Also, be careful of how many embryos they implant; I know of 3 acquaintences w/ triplets from IVF (and one had 2 embryos implanted w/ one of them then splitting again)! I had 2 embryos myself; the MD told me one embryo was marginal and didn't give it good chances of taking, so you never know! I also had acupuncture done twice the day of the implantation; right before I went for the implantation and then right after, and I think that was very helpful. Make sure that you take 2 days off after the implantation to relax on the couch/bed and catch up on movies!

C.,
I have been inyour shoes! I did 3 IUI and they didn't work. I didn't have a lot of pain after my egg retrieval. However, I did take the pain meds they gave me pretty regularly on the first day and slept.
I was blessed to get pregnant on my first IVF cycle! My darling daughter is the light of my life and will be 3 in April. I am here for you! I will send you my email address in a private message if you want to chat. Good luck and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

I have three beautiful babies from one IVF cycle (boy/girl twins) and one frozen cycle (a 7 week old boy). Wonderful things can happen. My pain from retrieval was minimal with a great doctor, twilight sleep, and rest afterwards. Do give yourself permission to take two days to stay off your feet after the embryos are put back in.
