Is Your Toilet Seat up or Down?

We had family from MT buy a secondary home here in AZ. We went to see their house and I went to use the bathroom after their 20 something yo son and he left the seat up. I was like WTH????

I guess I am spoiled. NEVER is any of our seats left up in our home.

Now my MT family has 3 boys (one deceased but the other 2 in their 20's) so I just wonder if the mom just gave up and let them leave it up since she's the minority in the home.

Just wondering what happens in your home? Do you have to fight with the males to put the seat down? Do they do it on their own? Does it bother you or do you even care?

What can I do next?

Lid up, seat down.

If the seat is up, the girls don't pay attention and fall in. EW!!

If the lid is down, they don't pay attention, and 1/2 pee on the lid. EW!!

So yeah, lid up, seat down ;)

Toilet seats down here...but that is mostly because the dogs...who always have fresh water...seem to prefer 'eau de toilette'

honestly, at age 48, I really don't think it should matter.

Why should one sex take precedent over the other?

& as a head's up, I'm the only female in a house full of males.....even the dogs! The seat is down....& so is the lid usually. Thank you to my family!

We all put the seat and lid down. If we leave any of it up the dog will drink out of the toilet.....even though she ALWAYS has fresh water in her bowl inside and outside!

I don't really care. My husband most oftens leaves it down, but not always. I don't mind putting the seat down as long as he doesn't mind putting it up. The other day though we were at a friend's house, who has 2 boys, and my daughter went to use the potty and didn't realize the seat was up and almost fell in! She came out and said, I sat down but I splashed my buns. After realizing what had happened I had to laugh and then explained the procedure! My son isn't potty trained yet but I don't forsee myself making him put it down either. I'm flexible!

Our toilet always has the seat down as well as the lid down. Occasionally, my husband will leave the lid up, but I come behind him and close it. He's getting better at remembering now that we have a curious toddler, but beyond that, do you know how many germs fly up into the air when you flush? That disgusts me, and so I require that the lid be down at all times when the toilet is not in use. Plus, then nothing can accidentally fall in there from the cabinet we have above the toilet.

I grew up with 3 brothers and only 1 toilet in the house. It was almost always up and I didn't care. What DID bother me was stepping in pee in the middle of the night ;-)

We have 3 boys and my hubby doesn't put the seat down, nor does my oldest. I don't find it to be that big of a deal one way or the other.

If it's their bathroom I don't care how they leave the seat. If it's my bathroom I prefer the seat down and the lid up. Since I share the bathroom with my hubby he told me the proper way to have the toilet seat was with both the seat and the lid down. So that's our compromise. I don't really care as long as I don't go in the bathroom in the middle of the night and sit down on the cold porcelain rim....

lid and seat down at all times. I am the only female in the house, even the dogs are male! For me is a hygiene thing and I am grossed out by flying stuff out of toilet if lid is up - watch too much mythbusters!

We have three cats, so I insist my son and husband put the seat down. I think it is totally gross whne the cats drink out of the toilet, plus I worry about the cats falling and and drowning (haha)!

It is actually quite unsanitary to leave the lid up when flushing, so everyone (boys and girls) should close the toilet after going and before flushing as to not spead the bacteria. When we started living together, my hubby and I made the agreement that we would both always close the toilet. I would put down the lid and he the seat and lid. Since then we have gotten pets and had 2 boys, so it is something I'm glad we are both in the habit of already. (He grew up with a boys bathroom where they never did and I grew up in a house where the lid was left up.)

If my hubby is home, its usually up. If not, its down. I can' t stand having the seat up especially when I use the restroom in the middle of the night---I don't turn on the light--I like to go in the dark and when I sit on the toilet---I have fallen in before--lol because he left the darn seat up!!!! EWWWWW. I woke him up and let him know I was NOT happy. He since then has done alot better about keeping the seat down. GL

It's down ... however the boys have their own bathroom daddy included that they are responsible for, not me. So, as long as I use mine it's all good.

I am lucky because my husband always puts both the seat and lid down. He thinks it is impolite to leave either up. I think he will teach our boys' to do the same. But some people don't care. If I leave the lid up though, my husband will say something to me ! LOL!!

I don't care if it's left up or put down.
If he leaves it up, I have to put it down to use it. If I leave it down, he has to put it up to use it. Since neither of us knows which one will be the next to use a particular toilet in the house, we're pretty random about leaving it up or down.
Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Lid is always up, since one of the cats actually pees in the toilet - we didn't train him to do it, he just started doing it on his own.

I'm the only girl/female in the house EVER. My family is all boys (except my mom and sister), my son's friends are all boys, my husband's friends are all boys, most of my friends are boys. Why on EARTH should everyone go around putting the seat down for me? I'm totally capable of closing it myself. Also... all of our "stuff" is in cabinets. (Toothbrushes, bathgear, etc.) Also, I grew up in a house where my mum was always yelling to "Put the toilet seat down!" or "Close the lid!". If I never have to have those phrases come out of my mouth on a daily basis, I'm happier for it. Ditto, not having to hear the "Bang!" all the time as the seat drops (oy), or the phrase "Put it down GENTLY." come out of my mouth 5 or 50 times a day.

I have enough stress in my life. Stressing about/ talking about/ shouting about the toilet is just not something I want to hear ALL. THE. TIME.

((Now, my son is very good about always putting the seat down in OTHER people's houses. But he and his friends (At NINE) actually thank me for not making them. I'll take those "cool mom points". I'm strict in so many areas it's nice to get them from something "meaningless". :)

ADDED benefit? No pee on my seat. Hahaha. Ever. And occasionally, my husband falls in in the middle of the night. Priceless.
