ETA: Carrie? Really? I'm sorry, but when kid wants their first kiss from a celebrity and it's a little peck? Let it go.... (sorry if this comment makes some of you want to take back the flowers, but really...it's such a nonissue. I would have loved if Michael Jackson had given me a smooch at that age. (but ONLY at that age.) Ditto on the Andy Gibb, Talks to Trees. First crush. sigh.

Here's the thing. This wasn't something that occurred in private. It was during a concert in front of thousands of people, probably including the boy's mother. It sounds like it was an innocent enough quick peck on the lips to boot.

If it were exactly the same situation in reverse with a girl and a rock star I wouldn't have an issue with it.

However, change the location and make it a private matter, it's a whole different ball game.

Are you referring to the Carrie Underwood kiss she gave a fan? If you are, it was sweet and not disgusting, plus, he had a sign requesting his first kiss be from her. It was a very public, open, non lascivious peck.
This was not cheating, on any level. Why would you even ask that without giving details?

Okay, well before reading your SWH, I thought uh, a little weird, but not cheating necessarily. But now it all makes sense! I think it's innocent and sweet and not at all a big deal. I also don't think it would have been a big deal with reverse gender roles. I mean it's a HUGE deal to be kissed by a celebrity and just like Carrie Underwood doesn't have hidden feelings for underaged boys, I'm pretty sure most male celebrities who would even do that wouldn't have pedophile tendencies either.

Now, if it were a dinner party and your bosses wife decided to kiss your 12 year old son b/c that's how he liked it, we'd have bigger issues!

She said she had permission from her husband. She said this to the crowd and the boy..

Of course it is not cheating, she does not love him and he probably has a crush on her, he knows she is a married woman who is just granting his wish..

I have a little girl. If she had a crush on a famous pop singer and he offered to give her her first kiss as a little peck on the lips in front of thousands of people in the audience... I'd be elated for her to have that memory.

That kiss that you're talking about (I mean really their lips barely touched) - no I wouldn't consider it cheating if my husband was giving it to any other female.

It was innocent - lets not make a big deal out of this. Not cheating b/c he was 12!!! If it were a man it would be the same, INNOCENT unless he was in private doing this. She wasn't in private nor alone w/him & it was less than a min. It's something he'll remember for the rest of his life. Thats called truely LIVING! Lifes short!
What if he had a life threating illness & had only a few w/ks to live, would everyone make a big deal out of it then???

I assume you are talking about the boy that held up the sign to Carrie Underwood at her concert saying he wanted her to be his first kiss so she called him up on stage and gave him a quick peck on the lips?

No, this is not cheating. =)

Any other situation is probably not appropriate, including a man and a 12 yo girl.

If I was that 12 year old (or flashback to being a 12 year old girl) and I had a chance for a peck on the lips by Michael J. Fox you can bet your bootie I would have taken it - and my parents would have been pretty excited for me too.

Someone showed the clip on their show yesterday, I think it was "The Talk" - anyways, I thot it was sweet. Totally innocent! I just hope someone snapped a picture so that little boy will have that picture the rest of his life!!

As for roles being reversed - if I had been at a concert and my daughter got to go up on stage and get kissed by - I don't know, Toby Keith or whoever she liked at that age - I would have been totally fine with it. I probably would have been jealous - lol!!! But I would have been fine with it.

Now, if in either case they were outside in the back alley or in the back of a car then yes, that would be wrong!!!

As for whether or not it was cheating? Seriously??? NO, it's not even close to cheating!!! In MY opinion!!!!

i think some things just get over-thought.
i think carrie did just fine. if i could have had capt james t. kirk kiss me on the lips at age 12, i'd probably have died of joy on the spot.
under most circumstances of course the answer would be no, but the world is rarely black and white.

When I read your question, I thought the behavior was totally inappropriate--but not "cheating". When I read your SWH, I thought *how cool*. I'm not sure what that says about my judgement?!?!?!?!?

And if it were Justin Timberlake kissing a 12 year old girl, I would think that was inappropriate...yes, that makes me a hypocrite!

I don't consider it to be cheating, but I consider it to be incredibly poor judgment and something to be wrong with a woman who did it.

I guess I'm going to sound sexist here, but I'll just flat out say that a man who does it just plain likes little girls... and that's nasty.

What sort of a kiss? If it's a sexy kiss it's inappropriate. If it's a quick lips closed kiss then I suggest it's OK, I'd really have to know more of the circumstances to know. Were they friends or strangers? Were they joking around or was he asking for a first sexy kiss?

If it was truly a sexy kiss then I suggest it was against the law.

Now that I've read the other responses and know it was at a concert, on stage, I wonder why you ask. I definitely think it was appropriate and as others say, sweet. If it was a male star and a female girl, I'd feel the same way.

Since it was Carrie, that is probably something he would always remember with fondness. In that circumstance I see nothing wrong with it. She was complying with a request in public. I doubt her husband had a problem with it.
For me to kiss a boy or my husband to kiss a girl would be completely gross and inappropriate. I would never kiss anyone on the mouth besides my husband.

If some woman was kissing a kid in private, that would set off the creep alarms all over the place. This circumstance was very sweet. And I know that my mom and dad, in the 90s, would have laughed and teased me (and been happy for me) if my favorite singer pulled me up on stage (in front of my parents and all the fans) to give me a barely there peck on the lips. So....it REALLY depends on how it's done, the situation in general. There are plenty of scenarios where that would be totally inappropriate, but there's no blanket answer that is true "always", I think. This would be one....I wouldn't be upset if some famous chick (can't think of one my kids would like or know) did that, in THAT scenario, and I'm very, very protective of my kids.

That said, my grown, adult husband gives his mom (who will be 88 next week) a peck on the lips. My son (age 5) still gives me a quick peck before jumping head first out the car. It's not an intimate-in-the-wrong-way kind of thing, but it's for family only, and he knows that. However, my 2 year old says no. He gives us kisses on the cheeks and wipes our kisses OFF his cheeks. He says "My kisses are good! Your kisses are yucky" to everyone (me, daddy, grandma, etc).

As for your question, it's not a lingering kiss or anything weird. NO it wouldn't be cheating, NO I don't think it was inappropriate. It wasn't a "sexual kiss" on stage, it was just giving that kid a memory.
ETA: I think "appropriate" is in the eye of the beholder. Some people feel awkward and like their space was invaded if they receive a hug or pat on the back. Others (males too) kiss their friends in greeting on the cheeks. Some don't see anything remotely sexy about a peck on the lips with someone that is very close to them. Others seem to feel that is the stepping stone to making out. Which is strange to me, but that's society for ya. We're a blended bunch, indeed.

I don't see the Carrie Underwood incident as anything, as it was all for show. If it was a teacher with a student in a coatroom, that'd be a different story. But when you switch the genders, I don't care if the adult man is married or not, that's just creepy. Yep, stereotypes here seem to matter to me.

They were talking about this on the radio yesterday. Some good points were brought up. What if it was a grown man and 12 year old girl...would the media have blown this up more than woman w/ boy?

One is it cheating...no really in my eyes. Weird yes in the context you put it. But knowing the whole story still a little weird and if I were her when he said Lip to lip I would have said kiss on the cheek.

No it is not cheating. I do not think that the woman was wanting to develop a romantic relationship even if it was just a filing. I would think the idiot woman wasnt thinking about how inapproperate it is and thought it was cute or sweet. Girls think on diff levels than guys. Either way if it were a man or a woman adults should not be kissing 12 yr olds.

I heard about that kiss on the radio and I thought it was very inappropriate. If she just gave him a peck on the cheek that would have been just fine.

I don't think it matters that she is married and I don’t think of it as cheating. It is considered child molestation.

I don't know about cheating; this is pretty ridiculous to ask if it's cheating.

BUT the only adult woman who should be kissing a 12 year old boy on the lips is his mother or very close family member. Anyone else and it's inappropriate and not because of cheating.

Same with the man kissing the 12 year old girl. Just reading that conjured up horrible images!

Where did you come up with such a weird question? Have you been kissing 12 year old girls other than your daughters, on the lips?

I saw it and did not think it inappropriate. Surely the boy had adult
supervision and was aware of the sign and the possibilities of Carrie's
response. If genders were reversed, a peck on the cheek might not
raise eyebrows if done so publicly. Not cheating in my book because
it was not done in secret. This incident should give celebs and their
counterparts opportunity to express their own feelings about it.
But it spurred a question in my mind. Some families do not kiss on the
lips, even their own children or their parents. Seems the passing of
germs would be a concern and unneccessary.
