My youngest has been complaining for a week about stomach pain and diarrhea, we just moved to the area and I do not have insurance yet, just started a new job, he is able to eat, doesn't complain about any other issues besides this stomach ache (its not an all day thing, just occurs after he eats) and diarrhea. Can ANYONE else tell me if they are experiencing anything similar with their kids? E.R. advice doc says it sounds like a tummy virus.... your opinions are welcome...I work in the medical field and cant help but to be so paranoid -K

What can I do next?

um.
there's always a stomach virus going around.
i live in MD, so it's unlikely that whatever is going on here is affecting your kids.

I agree with the poster that said to stop drinking the tap water for a bit and see if that helps. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to water change and that is how it affects me. I would also try some Activia yogurt for 2 weeks to see if that kind of "rights things around." Finally, consider that it might just be stress. Moving, new job for mom, not sure if there is a new school, too? Some kids just present stress with stomach issues.

Good luck!

Around here we've got a very long lasting cough going around.
Nothing epidemic with regard to any stomach virus going on as far as I can tell.
Some Imodium wouldn't hurt.
Keep up his fluids and have him eat liquids for awhile - soup broth, yogurt, jello, etc.
He can actually go quite a long time without eating anything solid just as long as his fluids are kept up.
After a few days of that, follow BRAT (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast).
Then gradually work in soft easy foods - mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc.
In a week or two he should be back to his regular diet.

It was in the news as recently as last month that norovirus was making its way around the state.
Unfortunately, my experience with these types of things is that it just has to run its course. Florastor Kids (probiotics) is great on getting that stomach balanced. I take it myself when I have a stomach issue.

Acs200 colloidal silver will work fast. And some raw garlic mix with a light soup. Raw ginger juice also. My son went through the same symptoms but we was able to speed his recovery time. Around a day or two. I hope this helps

I remeber my daughter having a stomach virus in the summer. Her pediatrician told me there are always stomach viruses going around.
Diarrhea can last for weeks. Unless your child is in severe pain I would just stick to the brat diet. There is nothing medical that can be done for a stomach virus any way.

Sounds like one of those things. The key for me is that your kid is able to eat and isn't throwing up.

Go for BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast (maybe a little turkey) ...no dairy...and small small meals - basically little snacks much more frequently, and see if that helps with the pain. And hydrate like crazy because he's losing fluids through the diarrhea. Try jello, broth, soup, popsicles, maybe pedialyte; no apple or fruit juice, no milk, no watermelon since the fiber can increase the diarrhea. He can make it a few days without fruit or a lot of veggies. If he does okay after a day, you can try a little cheese (real cheese, not "cheese food") because that helps bind him up. Too much dairy can increase the mucus, and that can be uncomfortable and aggravate the problem. And serious hand washing but not with antibacterial soaps.

If he's managing all day long, doesn't have a raging fever, and isn't lethargic to an alarming level, I don't see that there's much a doctor can do, so I wouldn't go in unless his symptoms or behavior take a nosedive.

I think there will always be viruses going around. But you say you just moved. This could be as simple as different foods, and different drinking water (not that there's anything wrong with the food or water - some people just take time to adjust or are sensitive to different things that are in water, like whatever they treat it with, or different natural minerals, etc).

For a little while, try giving your son bottled water to drink, from a national or international source, not a local one, instead of his getting a drink of water from the kitchen faucet or bathroom sink faucet. Don't use the water from the kitchen faucet when preparing his foods, but use the bottled water. See if that makes a difference.

We had that same problem when we moved once - no one else in the family was affected except for my daughter, and every time she drank water from the faucet in the kitchen (and we were all drinking the same water from the same faucet with no problems), she felt really sick.
