Is Clover a Good Girls Name?
I am thinking of naming my baby Clover. I know that the names Lily, Chloe, and Piper are all super popular right now and I feel like Clover sounds a little like them, but it is different. I grew up a J. and always had a couple other girls named J. in my class. I want to give her a unique name. Anybody named Clover? Or what do you think?

Remember she won't be a baby forever. Names are forever.
Sounds more like a stripper name than someone that would be taken seriously. JMHO.

Clover makes me think of the book Animal Farm. Clover is a character in said book. She is rather weak-willed and kind of dumb so I wouldn't pick that name just because I have negative connotations with it, but other people won't think of Animal Farm at all. She might get Irish jokes frequently. If you like the name, go for it. I personally wouldn't pick it.

I strongly believe that you should name your child a name that you love.
That said, I do not like Clover. As a school teacher, I'm thinking the kid would constantly be hearing about her name in a negative way.
If you really love it, go for it! A lot of kids have unique names these days, including my own. I also tend to think of if it is a good kid and adult name. I can see if for a cute, freckled little girl, but CLover in a board room I'm not picturing so much.
This is just my opinion. Good luck with your new baby!

I'm sorry -I think it sounds like a pet. Great name for a pet rabbit or dog or even a cat or horse, but after about age 5, I don't see it working well for a person. Always think of your child's future as an adult and how well the name you're selecting is going to play for an adult.

Personally I think it's a name that might not work as well when she's older. Clover (or Apple or Starbud) is cute when they're 3 but when they're 30 and looking to advance their career? It could be tough to be a lawyer named Clover.
Try going to behindthename.com for interesting names or nicknames that might catch your interest. What about Heather?
You could also give her a more traditional name and nickname her Clover. That would give her a choice later.

When choosing a name, I always wonder how it would read on a resume as an adult. Clover sounds like a nickname and I am not sure that a Clover would be the CEO of a company or the president of the United States.

If your a horse. Not so much for a little girl. It will be cute when she is smiling at you from a sandbox. But when she is running a meeting in a boardroom or trying to maintain control in the workplace it sounds too much like a previous poster said and thats a stripper name. People can say all they want about naming your kids whatever you want but there is stigma attached to outlandish names.

Ok, so I am on the "no" side, but only because its sound makes me think of "mr. lova, lova (lover lover)" shaggy's song?...I hate to say it, though, I am sorry :-(
If you like "green" names you could consider violet, maybe, or jasmine, daisy, rose???
Reality is that it doesn't really matter what we all think, it is your baby, her name and the "meaning" you want that name to hold for her AND she will give that name her personality, in the end, not the other way around. Whatever you choose, congratulations!!!

Having a 13yr old boy, the first thing I think of is "Cloverfield", which, of course, is that movie where that monster destroys NYC. Fans of that movie (teenage boys, that is) call the monster "Clover". I think Clover is actually pretty cute, but I just can't stop myself from picturing that monster...

Hmmm . . . . this is a tough one. I think it is a really pretty name, but I can't help but think it might be one of those that little kids in her class may find a way to make fun of. Kids can be pretty cruel when they want to be, unfortunately. I hate that we have to think that way when we try to pick out names for our kids, but you want to make sure you give them a name that they don't hate when they get older. I hope that helps, and please don't think I am saying it is a bad name - I actually think it is really original!

I don't know anyone by the name Clover. When I hear Clover I think of that song Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett. If you love the name then you should go for it. I had a friend tell me that they were naming their daughter Charlotte and I was thinking OMG...what a weird name. But then they said they would call her "Charlie" for nick name. After a while - Charlotte grew on me and I absolutely love Charlie for a girls name. I think though your daughters name will grow on people and well it doesn't really matter anyway.

For me, I don't like it. It would be a cute nickname.
What about Charlotte Love and her nickname could be Clover?
When I was picking my daughter's name, Oct. bday, I too wanted a unique name. My favorites were:
Autumn Danielle C. (since she was an Oct. baby)
Victoria Louise C. (ggrandma's middle names)
Lorilynn Joy C (a combo of the 3 grandmother's middle names)
One thing I would do is write it down. You'll be writing the name ALOT!. See if it flows from your hand, and how it looks written on papers, diplomas, etc.

I happen to know a super lovely woman named Clover and frankly, I wish I'd thought of it for a name.
She is highly intelligent, not a hippie at all, and it really fits her.
I for one, think it's a beautiful name. I work in a hospital processing the birth certificates and all the names are the same. I would be tickled to see a Clover come along.
Best wishes to you!

Personally, I think it's different, and pretty. =)
I understand how you feel. There were always a lot of Jennifer's in one class. We constantly were called Jennifer then our initial of our last name. I used to hate that.
I have had several people tell me that they had a pet that had the same name as my child, that her name sounds like a strippers name, that there is a song (which I already knew of) about a prostitute with a similar name and people will tease her, and the list goes on from there.
I just told everyone that my daughter will be capable of great things, and that her personality will shine through to those who are judgemental against her name. I also tend to think when she's an adult there are going to be a ton of unique names.
BTW those that told me kids her age (this is when I was pregnant mind you) will be teasing her with a song that was released in 1978, I had to laugh. I grew up in the 80's and EVERYONE sung ###-###-#### (jenny) to me, and when Forest Gump came out...well lets just say everyone had fun with that one too. =)

no offense but I think its a great name for a rabbit. My crazy sil had her cat named clover, I always wondered, just seems like a bunny name to me!
I love "c" names tho... Chloe is adorable, but keep playing with them, pretend you are signing your name, write Clover Whateveryournameis, and see how it looks. most kids hate their name at some point, I detested mine because adults would always say J.? like chanel #5? I didnt get it lol, and hated it being made fun of, but reality is it happens to all names in one way or another!

I like it. There was a big tradition of flower names in the Victorian era and I think they are pretty. I am not so fond of the modern trend of giving girls first names that sound like last names. I think an uncommon flower or plant name is a good choice to get away from some other very popular names. I have a friend who named her daughter Juniper and calls her June. Both my 90 year old grandmother and my sister's baby niece are named Violet.

I remember being struck by a friend's name in high school - he was named for a revered ancestor - it told him he came from people to be admired and emulated. We did that for our children. They love being told stories about their great grandma who was an artist when they bring home paintings or take an art class. Names from a few generations back are coming back, but still not too popular - so you could combine different with keeping a sense of wonder, honor, family in your baby's name.
