Girl's Name to Replace Willow
Hello,
I'm in need of some name help. My husband and I finally agreed upon a girl's name, Willow, after a very long hunt. (We like more unique names, yet still girly.) However, this weekend I found out that a relative of mine just named their baby girl Willow. So, it's back to the drawing board with selecting a girl's name.
We are going to be surprised, so we may not need a girl's name. However, I like to be prepared. If we have a boy instead, we will be naming him Harrison. I need some help coming up with a different name like Willow that blends well with Harrison. I know there are some creative moms out there, so please send me your advice!
Thanks!

Stick to Willow...If you like it then don't go back to the drawing board. Whether it was a family member or not...down the road you'd find someone else using the name..Don't have regrets!

If you like WIllow, you don't have to sacrifice it just because someone else named their kid Willow. It's not like their kid is the only Willow ever born.
My sister gave her daughter the same middle name as my daughter - big fat hairy deal. It just means that we both have great taste in names.

If you want a really different name, go with Jennifer ;) LOL, I joke. Seriously though, it seems like all of the "different" names are becoming the new Jennifer.
I love the name Rose.

Maybe Meadow instead? (although that was the daughter's name on The Sopranos.) Or Fern?

What does it matter if a relative just named their daughter that? My daughter and her cousin share the same name and everyone could care less. When they are all together we call our daughter by her nickname. If you love the name use it!

So what if you have another Willow in the family?
There's no reason to discard a name you love just because anyone else used it.
George Foreman named every one of his kids George, girls and boys alike.
There are no rules regarding using a name over and over again.

I do not think there is anything wrong with having a few Willow's in a family.
There are a ton of James And Leonard's, Joeseph's, and Ann's, in our families.
Our next door neighbors just had the most beautiful baby girl and named her Posey! She is adorable and the name suits her perfectly.
I also love the name Lily.
Each girl I have known named Lily was beautiful, smart and kind.

A famous old name is Willa
How about Linnaea, Aven (a flower), Adelie, Stella, Sydney, Juniper, Aspen, Sage?
I love Meadow. Someone on here once suggested Clover which sounds cute too.
I love the names you have picked out! I would not worry about having two Willows in the family. That's a sweet name.
I wanted to add, my neighbor's daughter is named Ocean.

Unless your (potential) daughter will be seeing this relative every day, I would still name her Willow! Really, if they're only going to see each other at holidays (if even then) then what's the harm? Especially if they would have different last names. I've never understood the whole "she 'stole' my name" thing and I would have no problem explaining that great minds think alike and that was the name you and your husband had chosen. Within a month everyone will get used to it and you'll have the name you want!

WilloRain (Willow is super popular right now so you might be happy NOT naming your daughter Willow. But like the name Lorraine.. you could invent the new form Willoraine. Then you could call her Wil, Willo, or Raine for the nick. But, sticking to more natural resource (flower names), here are some of the ones I think are pretty cute:
Blossom
Petal
Bloom
Ivy
Lily
Daisy
Rose
Ember
Sage
Violet
Iris
Marigold
Violet
Heather
Rosemary

After reading your post three names came to mind Ivy, Meadow & Skyla. There is no reason that you need to change your original selection just because another family member used it. In these situations you have to go with what you feel is best and if you both decided on Willow then there is no reason to change your mind. My daughter is Laci, the name came to me as soon as the technician told me she was a girl. It is possible that when you see your baby you will know "their" name. By the way my daughter is 7yrs old and for the first time a few weeks ago she met another little girl with the same name, but spelled differently.
Good Luck (and who cares if your family has two Willow's)

babynamewizard.com You can type in a name and it will give you all sorts of different information, including a list a real-life sibling's names. That might give you some ideas, as the parents liked one name you have picked, so you might like the other names as well.

You don't say when you are due so this is just a guess. When my son was born, he's 33, the hospital had a bulletin board with the newborn pictures and their names. One of the baby girls was named Summer Joy, I thought it was beautiful. And really showed how happy the parents were to have her.

Why can't there be 2 Willows in the same family? You want it, so keep it.
There are many families with generations of the same names. More common with boy names, but it happens with girls' names, too.

I liked unsual names also but found that even if it is unusal when you choose it, soon it hits the most popular list. When I named my daughter Cassie, it was not a very common name at all. Now it is around everywhere. Another name I liked and concidered was Rana Michael for a girl. One name I love a lot is my granddaughter's name, Emmalyne L.. Emmalyne is pronounced Emma-line not Emma- lynne. Since she has been born there is at least two babies that I know of that was named after her but they went with the lynne ending. Sometimes it works to take a semi common name and spell it different to make it unique. My oldest son is Jarrod instead of Jared and my youngest son has the most common name of my three kids which is Jordan. He also was the most unique child..lol
Whatever you name the baby will be perfect. Congrats and bless you all.

I really like the name Willow...It's actually one I've considered if we were to get pregnant again. I love how everyone has suggested Ivy for a name because that's my daughter's middle name. All 3 of mine have "uncommon" middles names like myself: Dawn (me), Kaitlin, Ivy, and Kurtis(my son's).
A few names I like are:
Cambria
Violet
Evelyn
Olivia
Ires/Iris
Margot (Maggie)
Charlotte
Brynn
