So as some of you Mama's know I right now work 6-7 days a week and some pretty long days for 64 hours a week. WELL I had an interview on Tuesday for a new job to work ONLY 36 hours a week and that being 3-12 hour days. I'm excited as I will get to spend so much more time at home and hopefully make better money with better benfits.

Here is my delima. The interview went great and they called for me to go take a drug test (awesome right!). Well I answered my cell phone in my office with other people in here so it was just a brief conversation. I have tried numerous times to call the company back to see where I need to go to take the drug test when I get there and can't get a phone call back. I am going to show up and go to the HR department for guidence, but I did not interview with that department.

Also, what do I need to wear to a drug test? Can I go casual? Do I need to take a list of my medications that I take too?

Ahhh, Help me! LOL

TIA

What can I do next?

The drug test is usually done at another company. Most drug tests are just a matter of peeing in a cup and you're done. Some require blood. You give up a few vials of blood and that's it.

You can wear whatever you want but clean and neat goes a long way. Think business casual but no jeans. It really doesn't matter but you never know who is watching you.

I had to go get a drug test for a security clearance and i was sent to a private lab. Quest is one of the major lab companies. Wear comfortable clothes, but not too many of them! I had to go into a private stall to produce a urine sample, but all my stuff==purse, sweater, coat had to be placed in a locked locker (they gave me the key) outside the door of the bathroom. They did ask for a list of medications on the form i filled out.

Mom:

A drug test is done by an unbiased company. You don't need to 'dress' for it - you could wear a bathing suit and it would be fine! LOL!!!

It's really not much of a dilemma - call the person you interviewed with - you can step out of your office and take a break, right? and tell them you are trying to make the appointment for the drug test and haven't received a call back.

You CAN call the HR department - they should have your file and information and should be able to direct you to the right place. IF you are going to the HR department - dressed professionally - like you saw the other people dressed that you interviewed with or a tad better.

Most drug testing places that I know about are walk-in and appointments. Yes, it would be best if you have a list of drugs you currently take. Pay attention to what you eat the day of the test - poppy seeds CAN affect the outcome of the test results - so if you eat poppy seed bagels for breakfast - don't do it that day.

No need to dress up for the drug test - it usually is just a lab where you pee, sign a few things, and you are done. Make sure they havea good contact # in case they do want to call you for your list of medications. Typically tho they are looking for 5 (non-dot test) or 7 (dot test) specific drugs and that is it. They are only looking for those 5 to 7 specifics in your pee not looking at what all is in your pee (I hope that made sense...)

Good luck!

Yes to all the above...go to HR for guidance, that's their job. And yes, tell them your meds...that could affect the results.

Dress business casual. Kakkis with white shirt or black pants with blouse.

Even though you didn't interview with their HR department, they should be the department handling those types of details. Thus, HR should be able to tell you were to go for the drug test. In my experience the drug test is at a clinic and not at the potential employer. I went casual unless I was at my current job and dressed for that. You should have a list of your prescribed medications just in case. Also you should tell them if you are taking someone else's prescription. Good luck.

If you were going straight to the lab, you can wear casual but nice pants'skirt and shirt/blouse, maybe "business casual". Since you are going to the office, dress it up a bit, a dressier version of business casual. If you're comfortable with it, go ahead with the list of medications.

Don't dress like a slob, slacks or kahkis vs jeans and a button down top - think Eddie Bauer vs Learner New York!

Take your actual medication containers with you so that the lab can see that the drugs are prescribed to you.

You can go business casual to the drug test.

You can stop by HR and get the information that you need to take the drug test.

Oh and relax, it is hard to pee in a cup when you are nervous. LOL

If you can't get anyone to answer the phone, I would drop by the place, say, on your way home from work or on your lunch break or something, to find out the details before the day of the test. Most places don't do their own drug testing; they send you to a lab or somewhere else, so showing up at the HR dept probably won't help. Try to find out the info in advance. They may want a list of your medications, or sometimes they even want to see the medications (I guess to verify that you have a valid prescription, in your name).

If they send you to a lab somewhere else, you could wear whatever you want. No one from the new job will see you. If they do happen to do their own testing, I'd suggest business casual attire. No need to dress like you do for an interview, but you don't want to look disheveled either.

Everyone else covered it for the most part but I wanted to add to make sure you take ID. They won't drug test you without proof of ID. Even if you take pill bottles with you, they may still ask for a copy of the prescription if something comes up positive on the test. It's not a big deal though, you'll just have to call your doctor and ask for a copy of the prescription.

I had to take a drug test for one of the companies I worked for. They sent me to a private lab and drew blood and took a urine sample. I went casual as I didn't see anyone from the company I was interviewing with there. They did require that I have my ID. Something that's also sticking in my head for some reason, don't eat poppyseeds (like a muffin for breakfast). Seems like they show up in your system as an opiate or something. :) You'll do great. Congrats! I hope you're able to land the position!
