I have found an awesome deal on a used Honda Odyssey Touring. The only drawback I see is that it is Black leather and black carpet. It says Charcoal, but it's really black. The outside color is Silver with tinted windows. How many of you guys have owned dark colored interior cars? Does it make a huge difference in the hot temps? I would think in TX that if your car is sitting outside the color isn't going to make that big of a difference...hot is hot isn't it? Well I'm not sure...that's why I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance for your input!
If you get the mini-van try using a dash board sun screen shield-- I think Wal-mart sells them in the car isle--maybe put one in the back too...
All I have to say is HOT is HOT any way you look at it in TEXAS-- so i don't think it really makes a HUGE difference!

Yes, it makes a huge difference. My husband traded in his car with the same silver exterior/black interior color combination last summer, and now has a white exterior/tan interior. He has commented several times on how much cooler his car feels, and his sits outside when he's at work. He considered another dark interior color when he bought his current car, but now says he's glad he didn't get it.
I have dark leather in my car. It makes an extreme difference! My husband's interior is light tan. It is no where near as hot as my oven. I open all the doors and let it air a bit before I put my daughter in her seat.
Yeah, I hate to say it but I do think it makes a difference, but I am not sure how great it is?? The other negative as far as heat goes is that the seats are leather. They are much hotter to the touch than cloth seats, like burn your legs when you sit, kinda hot!! So, I dont think it is someting I personally would do, but as always, only you know what is best for your family! ~A.~
I've had a dark car with dark leather interior....never again! I will also never have leather interior again as long as I live here! I always kept a towel to sit on in the car. Maybe with the car being silver, it won't be as bad, but it will still be extremely hot.
We've been in TX almost 20 years and we refuse to purchase a dark colored car with dark interior.
I have a sport Mercedes that is white with very very light colored leather interior and tinted windows. I can't believe how hot that gets if I am out. I keep the sun roof closed as well this time of year. I opted for the non convertible version of this car because the only available convertible tops were black. This one is only 2 yrs old and about 10,000 miles
We also have a little red miata with light leather and we looked had a hard time finding on with the tan convertible top. We would not have purchased one with the black top. We don't drive this much, just in the parade once a year and I take it around the block about once a week. It is 8 yrs old, perfect condition with less than 9000 miles.
Our Town and Country is white with beige leather. Don't drive this much either, 11 yrs old and less than 60,000 miles. Great shape though!
Our company car Jeep Cherokee is dark blue with tan leather. The Company car is the hottest and the darkest we have ever had.
Probably TMI but that is what we have and why in the Texas heat.
Not really! I have been in the auto industry for 18 years. The exterior color effects the rate at which it heats up but that is it. Interior color has a mitigated, if any effect on felt temperature differences. We have held multiple blind fold tests with the results being mixed, mostly due to participants guessing. Most who got in a white car in 100+ degree weather as their first test believed they were in a black vehicle.
Whatever you get is going to be hot in Texas. Get a sunshade. I know that in my DH'd car which is black on black, it makes a difference. Otherwise just open the door before loading the kids in. On the plus side it stays a little warmer in the winter. The sun warms the seats up :o)

I wouldn't do dark living here. I've lived here for over 40 years and I really try hard to not make the summer any more hotter than it already is.
