Infant Bad Breath

Okay. My 18-month-old has stinky breath. I noticed this morning a white coating on her tongue and her breath was stinky. I need some suggestions on how to deal with this. I did my best this morning to try to brush her tongue lightly while helping her brush her teeth. Didn't go over so well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Could be thrush - my son had it at 6 weeks old. I'd take her to the pedi and rule out any cause. An 18 month old shouldn't have bad breath.

sounds like thrush to me....you might wanna have her seen by the pedi so she can the meds she needs before it gets worse

white coating is more than just bad breath, take her in!

This doesn't sound normal at all. I would have her seen by your Dr ASAP before it gets worse or something further develops, putting her in alot of pain.

Do you give her vitamins? Ciated tounge can be a vitamin B deficiency. I'd especially suspect this if she doesn't get vitamins & is under what she would percieve as stress. Any illness can also be considered stress.
Coated tounge can also indicate digestive or colon problems. Is she having any mouth or dental problems?

I don't know if there is much more you can do. In my experience, I notice my kiddos (aged 25 months and 9 months) only get bad breath when they are getting sick. Does she seem fine otherwise?

You may want to take your baby to the pediatrician. The white coating on her tongue could be thrush. They'll give her something to get rid of the thrush, which is probably what is causing her stinky breath. :)

might be thrush ask the dr.
