Induction - Menifee,CA

Hi mamas. I am a third time mommy being induced next week. With my first I had the induction from u-know-where, my water broke and I had no contractions or dilation so they were starting from square one with the pitocin. It took 14 hours for me to have him. With my second I had natural labor that went so fast that I wouldn't have made it to the hospital if I hadn't had a drs appt that day since I was walking around at 7cm dilated and didn't know it. With this one I am being induced about a week and a half before my due date, due to excess amniotic fluid and my history of precipitous labor. I am hoping that it won't be as horrible as the induction with my first but I could be wrong. A few days ago I was already 2.5cm dilated and 70% effaced so at least my body is a little more ready than it was with #1... I was hoping to do this birth w/o an epidural, with my first induction that was NOT an option for me after about 5cm. I would love to hear the experiences of other mamas, both good and not so good who were induced with their 2nd, 3rd etc. so I can kind of know what to possibly expect. Thanks!!!

What can I do next?

I was just recently induced with my 6th daughter due to my history of precipitous deliveries as well. I had a high dose of pitocin (low dose didn't work with me with my 5th baby and I was eager to get things going) and my water was broken. I got up frequently to go to the bathroom which tends to help labor progress.Because I was scheduled for a tubal ligation right after my delivery, I ended up getting an epidural which I could have passed on. I found getting into a good labor pattern and making low, groaning sounds during my contractions was extremely helpful at getting through the contractions while waiting for my epidural. I had a low dose of pitocin with my 3rd baby, my water was intact, though, and I progressed rather rapidly at the end and delivered her naturally with no pain medication. Of course, the nurse delivered her because she did come very quickly at the end (that's typical of 3rd labors). The suggestion I would make for you is to avoid having too many people with you during your labor unless they are specifically there for labor support. Too many people with you during labor are distracting. Refresh your memory on good pain relief techniques w/o using drugs. You can do it - but be flexible, too. God bless you!

I was induced at 37 weeks because I had been on bedrest for so long and was so uncomfortable that my Dr. thought it was best for my stress level and health to get the baby out sooner than later.

I was not even the slightest bit dialated, not effaced, and my water was intact. The Dr. started pitocin at 9:00pm and at midnight I was lest than .5cm. The Dr. decided my water needed to break to get the ball rolling and used an epi-pin type device to break my water.

Breaking my water alone took about 10 minutes and was more painful than pushing the baby out! Then the pitocin came on pretty strong and after 10 hours of pitocin I had only gotten to 2 cm. I was exhausted and the Dr. said I needed to get the epidural or I would end up with a c-section. So, we went with the epidural even though that wasn't part of my birth plan.

And thank God we did! I fell asleep for four hours and when I woke up I was fully dialated and it was time to push. Had I not slept there's no way I would have had the strength to push, but my cat nap left me perfectly refreshed. My little man came out in five pushes and was perfectly happy and healthy.

I guess my overall advice would be: go with the flow. It's nice to have a birth plan, but births normally don't go according to plan, so just try to be flexible and let the baby come the way that is best for you both physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Although some might read the above and think it was a chaotic mess of a delivery, I think it was perfect and it was a positive experience for my whole family.

Good Luck!

I was induced with both my daughters. The first was 3 weeks early due to heart drops in my baby. I was induced on a Satruday around 10am and did not deliver until Sunday at 6PM. That's like 32 hours. I was not progressing, in pain, blah blah blah...it was horrible. I then had horrible complications after. I had major placenta issues.

My 2nd daughter, I was induced voluntarily. To make sure my Dr. could deliver me. The 2nd was so much easier!! I had a hard time progressing but once it happened, I was moving fast and pushed 3 times. I did have an epi with both and can't imagine not having one. I don't tolerate pain well. But I can tell you the 2nd one, I could have waited longer to get it. It was not as bad the first.

BEST OF LUCK. Soon, you will be holding your new baby!:)

Hi Robyn, congratulations! I was scheduled to be induced, went to the hospital and I was in early stages of labor at midnight. We let that go naturally for a few hours, it wasn't progressing so well, so they gave me the pitocin and I we had a baby by 9:00 a.m. I was induced because I wasn't holding my amniotic fluid so well on baby #2.

Best of luck.
