Under the Sea or Gymboree are great places for a one year old birthday.

Amy's Playground or Under The Sea is good especially if you'll have kids who are not all the same age group.
Under the Sea in Altadena is a great place. It's located on Lake Avenue. There is also a place in Arcadia called Kids Island. I had my son's 2nd birthday there and all of the kids had a blast!!

my son and i recently went to a fun and very casual 1-year bday party at garfield park in south pasadena. it's pretty, shaded and has both the park and big, open grassy areas. it was fun and all the kids ran around and had a great time. they have a whole bench/table which i've seen decorated with tablecloths, balloons, streamers, etc.
